BIOASSHARD DEV REPORT 4/22/2021

Hello everyone!


Time for another report. 

Finally got to the interesting part for me, the coding, but it’s heavier than I thought xD. So yeah, finished the LODs and their configuration (I thought I added too much LODs and now found that Epic uses more for their MetaHumans… probably I’ll had to add more on the future lol).

Now, I’m on the enemy refactoring process. As I mentioned it’s heavier than I thought at first. Yeah, even with how dumb they behave, that’s still a lot of code. So, the steps to complete are as follows:

1- Unify all the code into a single class (one class to rule them all xD)

2- Make them enemies to work as they should again <- (This is where I am right now)

3- Improve and modularize the code

4- Expand the code and go for the first Boss

So, yeah, the first step is done. Everything is now running in a C++ class and just a few (deprecated in the future) variables and overridden functions remain on the enemies, as you can see in the image (now it’s A LOT faster to compile). The overridden functions are basically related to reading animations that are different for every enemy.

And now, where I am, is making the enemies to work again as they were before unifying them. Yeah, because of the code and meshes differences there’s some work to be done to make them work as before (yeah, first I need to make them work as before and then I’ll improve them xD). The average enemies need just a bit of work to “fix” them, but the Big Guy and the Cerberus need a lot more due to their differences on behavior and animations.

So yeah, this is basically why there was no short reports on this past days/week, because the focus right now is on something hard to inform about while still making it instead of once finished. The next report will probably happen when on step 3 or 4, but please bear with us, since this takes lots of time (is a good thing we decided to focus the next release on adding the first Boss, after all).

Futa is something we want to add but we don't have any concrete plans for it right now. And for bosses, well, the next version will include the fist boss ever.

About the GB stuff it's something we would like to add, but since none of us two are animators (and yeah group animations are so hard to make), our only hope is to being able to add an animator to the team. Hopefully our income will allow us to do so.

Honestly excited in this development; After randomly finding the game I can say the idea and approach is great; Simply slotting in what I'm sure has always been a fetish for most players has added to the enjoyment! Overall I look forward to seeing this develop and evolve! Keep kickin ass!
