Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #98
Added 2019-08-09 21:57:46 +0000 UTCHiya there! Welcome to another exciting installment of Quest Failed: Chapter Two's ever expanding development log! Gosh, we're almost at #100. That's kinda scary when you think about it...but then again, it's been one heck of a long, wild ride to get to where we are today. I can only thank you all for your continued patience and hope that it'll all be worth it in the end! I suppose when we hit #100 I'll have to do something special, huh? Or, uh, at least try to!
As before I've been a little more quiet than usual on the patreon post front, while entrenched deep in the labyrinth of my script files that encompass the entirety of Chapter Two. The largest script file thus far is the 'events' one, that contains all of the events that happen in the game that aren't related to the side quests or main story. So this file contains all of the non-essential, optional interactions with many of the lovely ladies you can expect to see! And I can safely say I've knocked another troublesome h-scene/event out, with it ready to be implemented into the next alpha build, whoo~ Note that when I call it a 'troublesome' scene, it's not that it's necessarily 'bad', but more I struggled intensely to bring it to life, as I fell into a dangerous mindset where everything I wrote felt like it just wasn't up to scratch for the scene. As I've hesitantly brought up in the past, this is one of the biggest struggles I've faced in Chapter Two's development, never feeling like what I have written down is truly enough to meet the lofty expectations set out by Chapter One and the demo for Chapter Two. But I powered through that mental block and have something I'm happy with! I'll probably come back to it later on down the line and tweak it, but I'll wait for feedback on to see what people make of it all. The important part is that more progress has been made~
Most work now before the next build launches will revolve around all the non-writing aspects; sprite expressions, CG directions, music cues, and fixing up some lingering bugs present with some more time sensitive scenes. I don't want to set a specific date due to the pressure it might bring, but it'll be sooner rather than later--maybe even before the next dev log, so look forward to that! Just lots of loose ends really that will keep jumping out at me each time I try to finalise the build really, haha.
Finally--I've rambled so much I forgot to even talk about the lovely music sample I attached to the top of this post! (After updating my browser reluctantly I was finally able to attach music clips properly now!) The small sample you hear is the night time variant of the monster camp theme. I previously showed the lively/bouncy day time version--but as you can see, the night time version is a lot more chill, retaining familiar elements from the day time one, but bringing them to a far more chill state. It almost makes you want to just snuggle up by the fire and doze off...mrrr~
Speaking of which, the monster camp has been a fun thing to build up after planning on including it for so long, and finally giving all of these lovely monster gals the love they deserve after neglecting them for the city life! You just have to wonder how they never get caught out here, with how noisy and chaotic they can be sometimes! I plan for just as many random events to happen here as they do in the city, so whichever place you choose to visit the most, you won't be disappointed!
What do you guys think about the recent tracks showcased for the monster camp? Are you looking forward to visiting it and saying hi to the monster gals? Or are you gonna stay in the city in the hopes of catching the eye of one of the many human women that seem to be so abundant in Rhan? It's gonna be really interesting to see who favours who down the line!
And that about wraps it up for today. I apologise for the sparse dev log, but I think once I've gotten this new build out I should be able to focus on a new batch of things with a fresh perspective. I've just been entrenched in this one area for so long I'm starting to forget what the rest of the game even looks like, ahhhh! I'm sure a new perspective on the script will do us all some good--so look forward to it!
Until next time~

Yup, failure is the only option; let's all just get on with being our exceedingly fallible selves - yeeees, that applies to you too... don't worry, it'll be fine... ;)
