April 2016 (almost) Patroncast

Welcome to the (sort of) April 2016 Patroncast!

April 2016 (almost) Patroncast

Comments

I barely actually play any games that aren't recorded - pretty much, if I'm playing, I may as well record it.

Ha, I think it was just after was talking to Wot and Tracey of Nerdcubed - I'm not sure I spoke to any devs in that room!

So Jon, how's that May Patroncast coming? XD

I wish you would do one of the older fallout games, maybe a mini series, or wasteland 2. it would be a nice little change of pace. anyway, I love all your stuff. cheers!

Choose Your Own Apocalypse was good - bordering on great - until I got the 'swallowed by New Vegas, fade away' ending, at which point it broke my awesome-meter. You gave me a moment I haven't experienced in games since...blimey, I dunno...text adventures I guess. Moments like that are next to impossible to achieve in FPS-style action games (and only marginally more common in actual CRPGs), so thanks for that. More of that please! Sim City 4 was awesome for one reason: you play smart. And you communicate your thinking clearly. All right, two reasons. Those, and your editing for quality over quantity. Three reasons. Er, I'll stop there before I embarass us both further :)

Just finished listening to the podcast now and overall i think..man, you have a very busy schedule! I think that 4 fallout episodes a week are a bit too much..don't get me wrong, fallout is what brought me into the channel, but having that many parallel universes in Fallout 4 is a bit disorienting..i think that once one of the F4 series will be finished you'll have plenty more time to organize a less stressful schedule.

As far as the overly happy thing for Americans, its generally not our choice. Back in high school i worked for Wendys, and in the middle of an inspection I was on the front counter, and we ended up losing a point because i wasn't smiling enough. It feels as fake as it looks.

As an overseas international currently residing in Australia, I observe that we've got a bit of both here in service sectors - some of them are outrageously joyful and outgoing to a point that I sometimes embarrass myself when talking to them, and some of them are polite and to-the-point, like you said in UK. Thankfully not all of them are over the top, otherwise I'll probably become a hermit - it's just too much for me.

Haha, I'm Finnish and lived in the US. I totally agree with the creepy fake smiles and cheerfulness. It seems kinda Fallouty now that I think about it. I live in Japan now which is also overtly polite, but they somehow manage to do that without the creepiness.

I'm certainly happy that you didn't censor the Magic Abortionist. :>

MikeBurnFire

At this point, I will be disappointed if it happens in time! xD Jon, gotta love him

I was the guy that recognized you! I'd heard you talking to some game developer (I can't remember what game). I was only about 60% sure it was you when I approached you. I did bring Matt's book with me to get signed but I completely forgot to ask you to sign it (I thought it would be funny). It was really great to meet you. I also was somehow in the EGX video you recorded which was also a nice suprise.

I've managed to pass curious expedition. My strategy was: take Nicola Tesla and some journalists/artists, buy 2 muskets, always have something to heal and never go in dark tunnels without light, promote cook as crazy. I ended up with a team, which could one-shot a dinozaur, I was killing them and storing their skins, teeth, horns; and meat was always good for sanity. Basically, the whole strategy is about cook and meat. And at some point I stopped robbing shrines, since it never goes well. I did it only if I saw a pyramid, so that after robbing a shrine I could run for the victory. Also, sometimes it demands moon stone to enter, in this case you can't avoid robbing a shrine, since sometimes it's the only way to find a moon stone. It's also a good idea to replace your donkey by a water buffalo. As perks I took black market and heavy carrier, others are not that important. I don't remember the number of fame, but it was about 2500

For what it's worth, the Choose Your Own Apocalypse game was really fun! Please let us know how the weekend stats on your channel go, with the console release, too. I just assumed a requirement for Classics WAS poor career planning ;) Look at me, now I'm in tech...with a LOT of front-end consumer work. We're all afraid to loose our jobs and we're EXPECTED to be super-happy despite the fact that we're all miserable here. People get fired for not being that proactive and cheerful. I know it weirds out foreign customers, but toning it down=managers yelling at us.

Oh quick question, have you played much Fallout 4 other than the playthroughs we've seen on the channel?

Hello Jon, I just watched the first two resident evil films and there is something oddly intriguing about them to me. I'm actually find the story to it very interesting but the films themselves are just so badly incredibly ridiculous. Just also want to say what a great job you've been doing, particularly since going full time your content seems to have really improved. Unfortunately for me I don't seem to have the time to be watching an hour of content a day (I've even only just watched the March (sort of) Patroncast so the lateness hasn't been an issue for me), but at least I always have more videos to watch. Although I do regret falling behind on FO3 YOLO - especially after that massive hit by the enclave made things incredibly tense. Well done for completing it by the way!

Hazel

More Curious Expedition, please! I'd also love to see you do a full play through of Bounty Train, or another play through of Fear Equation. Listening to you talking about the British education system with lots of letters is like you're speaking a different language, I don't think I'll ever understand it. Not that Australia's is any less complicated, just completely different. Why don't you use your Jon character for Far Harbour? Or at least include her on the poll. By the way, if you ever need to take a day off (or a holiday), we'll understand - we'll all be here when you get back. And on the Italy question, how many subscribers do you have Australia?
