Great reaction, love some of your theories as always

About the three-part honorifics. The honorific used in ritual magic is a symbolic name to uniquely identify the entity you're requesting assistance from. It is made up of a number of parts, each one a existential truth about that entity. The more powerful an entity, the less parts are needed to invoke it. In this world, it is said that the seven major gods are (among) the most powerful known entities, and their honorific name is made up of three truths. Any weaker entity will need more parts in their honorific. This explanation was given in the Vincent's divination class the day Klein joined the club. So when three parts are enough to target the fool in ritual magic, that means his powers are on to par with the seven gods. For the Fool to name themself with a mere three-part honorific was already a massive shock for the hanged man. If the ritual magic actually works, in the eyes of worshipers, that could be seen as proof of the Fool's divine status.

the tarot cards were the star and the fool (inverted)

just a note no one else seems to have left, you confused roselle's diary (the 'sacred texts') and the antigonus family's notebook. that notebook is what klein, welsh and naya were investigating and is now with the church. roselle's diary is scattered, it's the chinese text old neil had two or three pages of. since the extra information comes in rather short bursts it might not be a good format for you to record (it's about 5-10 minutes of extra content coming out around the same time as an episode), and it's probably good to check it out sooner rather than later to understand some things better. for example, the things with the '3 parts honorific' was explained in one of these episodes. so yeah, i'm thoroughly enjoying watching these episodes with you and i hope you continue to have fun with it!

In the meeting: 1. Higher exams = is a direct translation to the name of the examinations they take in China (equivalent to a'levels) where years of studies & effort being tested all at once. It is a huge deal for all young and aspiring students to get into their ideal uni/college. (Koreans also have a similar format). So here, Klein is making use of his knowledge from Earth to help Justice's family find promising candidates for political positions. 2. The advice Klein gave to The Hanged Man about 'acting' is directly taken out of the Roselle's dairy. It was such an impressive hint that provided guidance to The Hanged Man. Throughout the 'gathering', Klein is acting to be this overpowered god (like giving the advice and mentioning the secret diary when no else knew it was diary), this instills fears to both Justice and The Hanged Man so they don't 'betray' him and expose his secrets and trying to find out who he is. It also ensures they keep quiet about it. He also asked them for favors after offering his advices to both of them. He's sort of manipulating them to do his biddings by offering 'equivalent' transactional exchanges, when in reality, he didn't really provide much. This explains why he acting so mysterious here. Extra: The four dots appearing on the back of Klein hands are supposed to replace the ritual items that was required to do the 'Luck enhancement ritual' that Klein performed in episode 1. It just that now he longer needs to place 4 food staples at 4 corners of the room to perform it.

Dont know if anyone mentioned it. but in the books no one at the meetings in the grey fog can see each other. so what the mc choose to do was act as a might unkown entity that has control over the grey fog. by anwsering thier questions and having a chant that has 3 themes connected to him, the other 2 people at the table are affirmed in their belifs that he is a mighty entity. which is also why he acts very different than he usuallu does since he is in essence playing the mighty "fool". hope it makes sense

Only thing I haven't seen people say is the refrence in the last part of the 3 part honorific name, "the king of yellow and black, blessed with good luck" the king in yellow is a reference to either the actual book, the fictional play within the actual book or the character in the fictional play within the actual book called "The King in Yellow" The actual book is also called "The King in Yellow"

Mr Robot

Where Klein got the answers to the three questions: 1) Acting - Roselle's diary from episode 2, where Roselle ranted about acting and also mentioned he wished he had chosen the Seer pathway. 3) Inefficient civil servants - he described the Chinese civil service examination system. Roselle's diary - Old Neil had three pages or sections of it, out of an unknown number of diaries Roselle had written throughout his long life. They were scattered, there's various copies floating around. They're not cheap, but individual pages can be found here and there. The "honorific name" Klein invented described himself, as Audrey and Alger see him. It's based on things he is, things he's noticed above the gray fog, and on the luck ritual. "Blessings stem from..." etc is vaguely similar to "king of yellow and black who wields good luck". Dude basically told his minions to pray to him. An honorific name or three-part name is what you use to perform ritualistic magic or mirror divinations. To perform ritualistic magic, Klein and Old Neil call upon the Evernight Goddess's three-part name. From Audrey's and Alger's viewpoints, they're performing a ritualistic magic towards an unknown, powerful existence, which could result in bad stuff. Four dots are a reference to four staple food-sources (four pieces of bread in four corners of the room) from when he performed the luck ritual in the first episode. Visual indicator of "grey fog stuff" happening.

Until now this was actually my favorite episode, because it had so much information and things like Humor, Horror, Epicness and Action all in one Episode combined. Im really hyped to see where this show goes, how the next Episode follows up and ofc your Reaction to it.

Flawless

A simple explanation of gray fog. (NO SPOILERS) The gray fog is a cheat. No one knows why its so overpowered. No one knows why it works the way it works. We just know Klein can use it afterhe chanted the incanatation: Blessings Stem From The Immortal Lord of Heaven and Earth Blessings Stem From The Sky Lord of Heaven and Earth Blessings Stem From The Exalted Thearch of Heaven and Earth Blessings Stem From The Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth

From what I understand... You gain the pathways power when you digest the potions. But in order to digest the potions, you have to act like the pathway (Seer acts like a seer, Sailor has to be a Sailor, etc... ). Basically you have to engrave it into your personality. As for the 3-part honorific name, I'm lost there. But it seems like Klein has the power of a God within the void. So he figured out a way for Justice and Sailor to recite an incantation that links him to the void where he can draw power from it. He's the only beyonder that we know of that can do that. I'm sure the novel explains in detail, which is why I started reading it. I've done about 20 chapters and I'm still at the beginning of episode 1 lol.

Capihood

Love your reactions. Regarding what you asked about Klein, we have to remember that he was previously from China. He has knwledge from a modern world. Higher Exam is actually just like an SAT exam equivalent in china

SoySauce

3 part honorific chants in Hermes are used when mentioning or praying to the Gods(eg. 7 orthodox gods, other evil gods). So when Hanged Man heard the 3 part honorific chants, he suspects that The Fool is like an ancient reawakened God. Also, Miss Justice(audrey) didnt join any churches, she got the potion formula/ingredients from Mr Hanged Man. Klein is trying to amend the original Luck Enhancemnet Ritual and change it to redirect/linking the Gray Fog to himself

Dexter Chia

So one thing that gets cut/sped through in the show is that when doing ritualistic magic like Old Neil was saying in the beginning. 1. don't pray to unknown entities, 2. pray to the known 7 deities using a 3 part honorific incantation. This is using three different "praises" to raise the attention of the deity, after which you can make your request as long as it's CRISTAL CLEAR, and something to which you are allowed to ask for.

PRAISE THE FOOL!

Charles Fine

Regarding potion digestions, each sequence of pathways, after taking the potion, the potion will stay in their body until they completely digest it. Through more and more complete digestion, their current sequence ability and spirituality becomes stronger. Until 100% digestion of current potion, they cannot advance to next sequence

Dexter Chia

I think you should watch the extra content, even if you don't film it. It adds a extra layer to the show. And the show is already blink and you miss it as it is. The only credits are the ones at the end, so its both opening and ending I guess. The Aura that was being looked at around the seer. His hand was missing fingers, so the aura was around his privates when his hand was down, so MC thought he had.....performance issues. The potions must be fully Digested before he can take another potion to advance down the sequence. And he found that 'ACTING' like a real seer, speeds up his absorption of the 'seer' potion. She didn't go to a church to become a beyonder, she got the recipe from The Hanged Man in their first meeting.

Lyndai

The perquisite for advancing to the next sequence is full digestion of the current sequence's potion.

The weekly tarot club gathering was one of my favorite part of the novel. That being said i suggest for those who haven't read the novel and plan on watching this to read a few first chapters atleast on the explanation of the tarrot meeting above the gray fog. It is easier to understand the animation with that.

reddnik

I'm just so biased when it comes to lord of mystries but damn is this show awesome.. the gathering is basically an aura farming ground for our Klain lol.. Also, chinese animes FTW with 30+ episodes long.. cant get tired of that.. I can see btw how the show is heavy handed and somewhat cheecky honestly (lol) with the constant hints but also glazes quickly on some of the core concepts of the show which leaves viewers with no prior experience with the show/novel with a lot more questions and confusion.. know that you're kinda the underdog watching the show as is with no context.. lol I haven't seen what other people prepared for first time viewers but i would suggest it.. Watching your reaction of this show is really fascinating and adding a shit ton of entertainment value.. some of the things you pick up on i find extremely astonishing with what little the show provides you with.. keep up the good work 🔥👏👏

deranged but not really

100% support you react to those extra content, like the chibi shorts and Old Neil's class, would love it since your discussion after watching each eps are so interesting, want more. For sequence potion, he needs to start looking for the formula to sequence 8, Dunn did told him on eps 2 that they only have the sequence 9 portion formula for Seer pathway. The formula must be correct or horrible things will happen to you if you didn't do it right. He also need to digest formula to be completely safe to advance next sequence, you can advance before fully digestion but is like a timebomb you will have problems down the line. For the Diary, yes, there is a lot of pages to it since the emperor wrote it through out his life. Old Neil did said he only got those couple of pages. He also want to link himself to the grey fog basically using the power and authority of grey fog to help him go home, is one way to control it, so he wants the incantation to direct at him which tides the power of grey fog to him, so he made those chants up when he was writing his notes, he use his luck ritual as a guide to make it up. The reason, Mr. Wilson was freaking out is 3 part honorific name are how you pray to the 7 orthotics gods, remember at the beginning Old Neil was praying to the goddess, he was using 3 parts honored names to chant the incantation to the Goddess, 3 parts are the God's descriptions, only Gods have 3 parts since other lesser beings can only have 1 part or 2 part at most, and when you use Hermes/Ancient Hermes to chant it out loud you are invoking them to pay attention to you. There is a reason Old Neil said you don't want to do that to unknown entity, because you are asking for attention from beings beyond you, this is how you get screw. 4 dots a symbolic representation of the grey fog space, remember how he get into the grey fog, he needs to walk 4 corners in counter clockwise walking when he chants the incantation to get into that space.

The paragraph about the Aurora Order also references the "Hanged Giant" which looks like the huge thing towards the end, so the "Hanged Man" is probably related.

YB_RickLee

The chibi are very cute and short and pretty fun. Old Neil class are quite informative, not essential but the supplementary data helps to frame the main story.

Chaddaï Fouché

i didn’t even know this existed before you watched it and now… i’m binge-reading the web novel, like you said it’s not for everyone but it is FOR ME lol

moy.

When he tells Justice to name the tougher exam "Higher Exam", he seems to be drawing from his other life back in China, since they dropped his name in one of the earlier episodes, the name was Chinese, and he could read the simplified Chinese characters in Emperor Roselle's diary. When he tells Justice to name the exam "Gao Kao", it means Higher Exam in Chinese; it's the most important exam in Chinese society for students to get into colleges/universities.

YB_RickLee

About Roselle's diary: Old Neil thinks it's a diary but that's just his hypothesis and not very usual so Klein calling it a diary with such certitude is a shock to Alger. Plus Old Neil said he only has two pages of the diary, probably of completely different times, seized from normal Roselle cultists. He surmised that there may be more in the central church archives but neither him nor Klein have access to that at their present ranks. On the incantation, if you remember Old Neil call to the Evernight Goddess and Hanass Vincent lesson, the seven orthodox Gods are described by three descriptors each. That's actually only for Gods, inferior entities only need one or two descriptors. So Klein chosen incantation imply he's a God at the same level as the seven orthodox ones, hence Alger's horror.

Chaddaï Fouché

The second line seems fairly on the nose too, referring to his personal ability to control the fog the third line im guessing is referring to 2 things, his gun which is black and gold, and the wields good luck, is probably a reference to the ritual he goes through to get to the fog plane, its a ritual to change ones luck i think he said in first episode

Dagomarus

I have no knowledge of the source material but i agree it sounds like he custom wrote a ritual that would direct messages to him, the fool in the wrong era , because he finds himself in a unfamilar time and place and has identified with the fool tarot with reading.

Dagomarus

The "High Exam" is just a translation for the major exam in the Chinese examination system. Klein is just transposing his knowledge of Chinese history to propose a model to establish a permanent bureaucracy in a country that is still coming to terms with an unstable parliamentary monarchy (most state employees are political appointees and so change very regularly). It's appropriate to use China as a model for this, after all they have millenia of experience and have been among the first to do such a thing. He was more detailed in his explanations in the novel of course, making Audrey's admiration more understandable.

Chaddaï Fouché

I think it would be very interesting to see you react to the extra materials. but even if you do not post the reaction you probably should take some time to see them. it will help enjoyment of the series more imo. As for the grey fog i think most important detail people miss with anime is none of the participant's of the gathering cannot see each other.they only see a blurry outline of each other. it was visually depicted on the first episode. so hanged man and justice have no idea about mr fool apart from he is a blurry figure who managed to summon them without any prior warning. And if you rewatch the divination club scene it is mentioned there 3 parts honorific names are only something gods use. so by giving a 3 part honorific name for the incantation hanged man believes mr. fool to be a true god

Ravindu Anjana

I never looked forward to a meeting until I watched LOTM lol. One of my favorite part of the show.
