Today is Diada de Sant Jordi (The Day of Books and Roses). An important day for Catalan culture. I'll explain it to you a little bit. Sant Jordi (Saint George) is the patron saint of Catalonia. The legend of Sant Jordi says that he rescued a princess from a dragon ๐ธ๐ When he killed the dragon ๐ก๏ธ the blood that gushed out turned into a rose ๐ฉธ๐น
That's why, since the 15th century, this day is our Valentine's Day ๐ and men give a rose to their beloved. Roses are also given to mothers and grandmothers.
