Practice Sketches

I did a couple of practice doodles trying to... so to say embrace my own style instead of trying to meet this idealized version of it. It was nice. I don't let myself draw for the sake of it as often as I should, and after doing this I thought to myself, "Wow, my style is pretty darn cool". Which I know you guys probably already think so, but it's pretty easy to fall into that imposter syndrome mindset when bombarded by other amazing artists online. Anyways, I like how these sketches look. My favorite is the lady making that dash in the second image. Looking at it reveals all my influences: Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, exaggerated perspective, bold sketchy lines, angular shapes... *smooch* Chef's kiss.

The moral of the story: While it's great to want to improve and grow as an artist, it's important to appreciate and love the art you already make. Art is an expression. It's a part of you, and it applies to style as well. Your style is baked into you whether you like it or not. Learn the fundamentals. learn from other artists, but use those skills, that mileage to strengthen your style, not change it to be like someone else.
