Here is a full Time-lapse Video w/music for the piece: Keeper of the Keys
It is always so fun painting goddesses that have a little more of the spooky vibes, so it was really nice to revisit Hecate with this fun portrait. It is a piece that I started on stream but then just kind of continued for fun.
I tried to play around with the lighting and colors a bit. I feel that I'm always in this continuous struggle between wanting to experiment with lighting and then also feeling an urge to simplify lighting.
That also goes with figuring out shadow colors. In this one I played with pushing the shadows on her to be cooler and more gray, while balancing that out with warm transitions between the shadows. I think it worked okay, but it is definitely something I need to practice with more, since I tend to find that slightly warmer shadows are a little easier to make look good, but I LOVE when I see some artwork that uses more gray shadows when it has that right balance of color in the transition area. Definitely something I want to practice more!
You guys may have noticed that I wasn't live this last Friday or Saturday. Sorry about that! I don't think it is too much of a secret that I have my fair share of ups and downs. I do tend to minimize it, but this weekend it's just been especially down, and I decided that hitting the 'go live' button was just not something I could do yesterday. I do plan on being being live this upcoming week though, so don't worry, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth!
