A little about the Process
Since this piece was for a last-minute rush job for a client, it needed to be a quick turnaround. Fortunately the client gave me the freedom to choose which character I wanted to draw and the freedom to approach the illustration how I wanted, which means I could choose a pose and everything that would flow easily for me!
You may notice in the timelapse that a face kind of "pops" into existence during the lineart process! I don't normally do this, but because the time crunch was so quick and because the character's attitude and color scheme was so close to my "Necromancer" piece that I did last month, I decided to use that face as a base. So if you noticed that these characters look a like, you are correct! lol So I reused the lineart for her face and then adjusted it slightly to fit more with this character. When you are on a time crunch, you sometimes gotta do what you gotta do!
Later in the process, when I was painting, I did do quite a bit of paintover in the shading for her face. For some reason I was just not satisfied with how it was looking, so It took a few tries of painting over to reach a point that I was happy with. Though, now that I watch the timelapse, I realize the difference was so subtle that it was maybe a little silly to obsess over it so much. That's how it is sometimes though. We can get so caught up with a little detail that seems really big and noticeable but in retrospect, its only something that you as the artist would ever notice.
Anyway, I hope you like how she turned out!
