Added 2022-03-06 10:23:49 +0000 UTCChained 13 is now released - up to Chained 8 is available for Ascended Patrons.
Chained 14 I've started.
Chapter 173 - is about 75% written.
In the next few chapters, I intend to focus mainly on Amdirlain, going to look to limit other PoVs to a single snippet per chapter for a bit, if there is any at all. Hopefully, it's now clear that folks are busy even without the MC in play, and that not everyone has her best interests in mind.
At some point want to write up some PoVs of the Archons getting to play on both inhabited worlds. To shows the sects, and what the various faithful get up to.
This monastery arc is turning into one of the longer ones for a few reasons.
1) She's a bit of a mess, and so I didn't want to say someone uses a mystic ability and things are just fixed - Mental Health issues are trouble for many people and I didn't want to belittle what they go through by doing an instant fix.
2) She needed some downtime to stop and learn more than just how to punch something in the face. So wanted to use this arc to ensure she's had that opportunity to get a proper foundation. Had a few people wondering why she was telling folks to learn things properly, Amdirlain has basically gone into a university course, and gone I'll just learn x since I need that, and not received the full breadth of exposure to other aspects of her classes and skills.
3) Did I mention she's a mess? A real mess!
4) My original expected chapter count has been sitting in the back of my head for some time, and I've skipped details in areas because of that. This is really the first arc where I'm properly going - this is a web serial - unlikely to be a book (though I guess if I re-write some of the rough early chapters I could self-publish) - let me build on stuff properly.
5) Those past lives - wanted her to meet up with someone who could start her down the path to cracking those memory vaults. But she needs to get her healing done first.
Hell's Songbird 10 - I'm currently re-writing chunks of, as when I was re-reading it I could see I had let the present time Isa's attitude blend too much into some of it.

Yeah, that one I'm not sure about, because I've seen a few books not related to Wotc make use of some of those species names. But yeah no idea of legal stuff, and its likely better to be safe than sorry.

Illithids, slaadi, gith (both yanki and zerai), beholders, and some others are trademarked by WotC, so you could get takedown notices if you tried publishing them. Just wanted to warn you.

2022-03-07 16:40:41 +0000 UTCYeah, there were just a few side characters that will come back into things during some main events. I didn't want it to seem like they'd just randomly levelled up just to fit requirements. I had a few questions about what Aggie had gotten up to gain her levels, and so wanted to set the scene about what various people would do with their time.

2022-03-06 14:38:26 +0000 UTCI'm glad to hear we'll be focusing more on Amdirlain. Not to say I dislike reading about everyone else, but it has seemed to me that the focus of the story has been a bit scattered since she arrived at the monastery. I'm also quite happy you're treating mental trauma with appropriate gravity. As someone who has dealt with it personally the glib and oftentimes offhanded way it's dealt with by most stories always niggled with me at the back of my head.
