Talking Futurama - Parasites Lost
Added 2021-02-26 05:00:01 +0000 UTC
Monthly Talking Futurama rolls on with this touching and worm-infested fan-favorite episode! When Fry finds self-improvement through a toilet sandwich, the crew decides to investigate the infestation in his bowels—leaving Leela to decide if Fry is better off swarming with parasites. Listen in and learn the origins of fast food special sauce, the preferred pornography of Scruffy, and just how well jerk prunes work as a laxative. So sit back and get ready for another podcast that's stronger than Gumby and Hercules combined!
While this episode is fantastic, you guys are ABSOLUTELY right about how it falls flat in giving Farnsworth and co. a good reason to get involved in Fry's situation in the first place. From the outside, it makes him a better person (and employee) and even if it presented some kind of health risk to him (which it doesn't seem to), most of the time it seems like the crew really wouldn't care if he died. I was thinking about this while watching, and it at least does make Fry's decision more meaningful in the end - much like Spider-Man's symbiote costume, the worms were nothing but a boost to Fry, but he was smart enough to understand that he didn't really want to be with Leela if she liked him for being something he wasn't.

I just wanted to bring up that a big portion of the plot is based on Flowers for Algernon. A “simple” person is made smarter and they end up questioning if their life is better now or when they were more ignorant. It’s a pretty common trope just like in the “crayola-oblongada” (HOMR) episode of the Simpsons.

Blew my mind that the Simpsons had a whole episode dedicated to kissing Musks’s ass.
We were all really drinking the Musk kool-aid during that time.

If you look at the file names directly under the post, you'll see that all the mp3s are titled appropriately. We're not sure why, but if you try to download mp3s directly from Patreon it renames them all "1.mp3." Sorry but there's nothing we can do on our end to fix this.

Do you mind naming the mp3s of the ep? Because they keep coming up as "1" and I have to rename them. Thanks!

Oh! Oh! I think the holophoner sequence is a nod to the random Don Bluth sequence in Xanadu! Which looks amazing! https://youtu.be/g9LhIxwdvRM I unironically love Xanadu but hesitate to recommend it because I was on codeine the first tine I watched it and it was a religious experience, this scene in particular

Is maybe important to point out that Katie Couric got her colonoscopy on TV because her husband died of colon cancer. She’s been big on butthole health — even for heteros — ever since, god bless her.

Funny Henry should mention Innerspace: Joe Dante, the film’s director and giant film nerd, initially didn’t want to direct the movie because the script he was offered was TOO close to Fantastic Voyage’s plot. Later rewrites were different enough for him, and he accepted the job.
I swear Leela and Fry turning into colourful otters that take on their physical traits is a nod to the Don Bluth-directed “Don’t Walk Away” scene from Xanadu, where the two leads of that movie turn into various animals in much the same way.

I have quoted this episode more out loud and inside my head throughout my entire life more than any other episode!
“What’s that Black Cracker?...A tomato”
“Your not gonna eat a sandwich from a truck stop men’s room?”
“Why aren’t you fixing the boiler? Scheduling conflict”
“There, fixed forever”
“They know how to make ice cream soup!?”
“We have to get somewhere where he won’t stick his finger! WERE DOOMED!”
So many amazing quotes
I worked in a 24/7 gas station and every time is saw “egg salad” anything I thought of this lol
