Talking Futurama - Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles

It's time to talk about the horrors of puberty as we cover a Futurama where an attempt to de-age the Professor sends the entire crew hurtling backwards in age. While Leela gets a chance to experience the childhood she never had, everyone else finds themselves grappling with the horror of pre-life, then death. Will the beloved Planet Express staff go back to being on-model again? Clutch your Angry Crotchety Grandpa Discount Cards and get ready to find out!

This episode is one of the best examples of Futurama basically tackling some low-hanging fruit (i.e. old people are annoying and worth making fun of) and somehow pulling it off despite relying on admittedly tired tropes. Maybe it's just the reverse aging that helps to sell it, or just that at this point Billy West is so good at finding what makes Farnsworth funny as he just absolutely nails every line. I feel like a lot of the Comedy Central era had similar setups to this episode, but many just miss that special ingredient that allows an episode like this one to flourish.

Is seemingly beloved Greg Miller actually a bad guy?

I can only read "Dippy Dawg" in the blue-haired lawyer's Dinnah Dawg delivery. Now I know why!

I'm re-watching Gravity Falls with my daughter, and all I can think of for what Henry's dad sounds like is Li'l Gideon.

On the subject of Vin Diesel’s ambiguous ethnicity. Early in his career he “wrote, directed, produced, & scored” a short film called “Multi facial” basically about how he can play any race. Just something I think about sometimes.

Thanks for the smile. Goopy Geer was April 1932. Mickey’s Revue, the first cartoon with the character that was originally christened Dippy Dawg (then Goofy), was May 1932. [The name Goofy didn't stick until very late 1935.] So it was a big coincidence.

We got a taste of it in The Deep South. And they’re ahead of their sister show; as far as I know they’ve never said “The Simpsons are going to Atlanta!”

I currently work at a grocery store and it’s really close to several Korean retirement communities so we get a ton of old people every day. They always have little rolly carts and pay for things with change which they count veeeeery slowly, especially when the checkout line is backed up. They are very friendly though, mostly communicating in the universal language that is pointing at stuff.

The Paris ending makes me think futurama never did the Simpsons thing of traveling to different cities. I think it would be cool to see how different places and cultures are in the future. Might be racist, but also could be cool. Just sayin

I work in a nursing home dining room, I deal with a few farnsworth’s there.
