There's definitely no one more upset about the lack of sound than us for this episode because it was SUCH a good ep but at least we get to bring you this silly post commentary version and still have the video intact!

I know I'm responding fairly late to this but whilst we don't see the scene, Cid curing Claire of her possession is referenced a few times, I believe originally in episode 2 of season 1 so her possession was something we had been introduced to in the anime despite not seeing the scene itself

2025-08-21 08:24:09 +0000 UTCIn the first light novel it is mentioned that Cid "cures" Claire after he experimented on the blob (aka Alpha). But his sister doesn't know (iirc he says he wants to massage her back to have an excuse to get close to her and then stealthy applies his magic). This is indeed SKIPPED CONTENT in the first season of the anime. It is later revealed that Claire, who is pretty gifted for an average human, noticed that something was off with herself at the time (even though it stopped) and THEN a couple of years later learns that it might have been possession (she gets cured when she is around 10 and Cid is around 6 or sth like that, then she finds out about possession at 13 or 14). She then starts to live in fear of maybe "turning" one day and ever since then has started to worry what might become of her brother (because while she loves him, she also thinks he is useless in life ^^). EDIT: Oh yeah, and with Claires arm bandage at the end: he thinks she is in her edgy teenager phase were she believes to have special powers. In Japan being in a cringy teenage edgelord phase is called chuunibyou.

I appreciated and enjoyed the post-direct--- *ahem* post-reaction commentary. ;) Thank you for not trying to fake a secondary reaction! Others did a decent job going over some of your questions. You'll find there's a LOT of stuff sprinkled throughout the first season that tie in/set up what's to come! I'll probably leave a more in depth comment when the season ends!

In the LN as well its more about the epic of shadow than going into details of how things work. No spoilers just what I piece together after watching this series many times. 800 years ago, the witch of calamity, demon diablos, left arm of the demon (i am thinking unholy trinity) comes down and starts some shit. The research facility (precursor of the cult) tries to find a way to battle the demon and starts using the blood of the demon as a catalyst. First attempt they create vampires, but then a blood moon happens, they loose control and scrap that idea. Next they create the possessed and keep tweeking it until they create Oliver. The comment Aurora makes about two sides of the same coin makes sense to me in this context since both the possessed and the vampires were created from the same means. That is my theory. This arc is done, and the next one is my favorite.

2025-08-20 00:43:57 +0000 UTCAurora says she's the original because she is Diablos, and blood from the left arm of Diablos is what infects the possessed and the vampires. I believe it's hereditary, but doesn't always present itself in a given generation. The possessed part and Aurora being Diablos was revealed during the underground lab where Cid met Aurora, and this episode discusses the vampires being a separate evolutionary branch from that same source. (As a side note, it might be time for a second monitor so you can see your recording software at the same time. That way you can monitor sound levels along with whether the recording is on.)

And what he "can't cure" is he thinks Claire became a chinobou (I probably spelled that wrong). I hope this wasn't spoilery since it was all mentioned. Love your reactions as all ways even with out the regular commentary.

2025-08-19 21:11:33 +0000 UTCWhile this episode likely taught you to triple and quadruple check everything is working when starting a recording, if your setup allows for it, it might still be a good idea to have a second microphone in the room. Just some simple USB mic, doesn't need to have great quality, it would just record at the same time and if anything ever happens again (maybe the audio gets corrupted instead of just forgetting to turn on phantom power) then you at least have a backup track, even if the quality might not be what it usually is, it's still better than nothing, literally.

Just before that the frame shows Elizabeth reattaching her head and Aurora said that a "little" injury like that will be healed in no time, before assuming Beta can do it too. So I assume that means Aurora can tell that Beta should have the power/mana/ability/whatever to also heal injuries in a similar manner, which would imply that the vampire healing abilities are a result of the demon blood which of course runs through all shadow garden girls since that is the origin of the "possession".

He is acting all understanding and caring so that she doesn't get discouraged.

Edit: so having to watch the reaction. you guys able to make the video still interesting even with just adlib comments. i hope you guys watch the post credit again to have a idea of what happened before next episode. Regarding Claire possessing the demon blood, it is not yet clear how she got it. but it is not that rare that some humans will activate their demon blood causing them to be a blob and die from mana overload. (1 example is Nu) it is somewhat introduced in the episode 2 season 1 as why claire got kidnapped. because she is a candidate for a human able to handle the demon blood. it didn`t explain in the anime that cid fix claire up until this episode so no issues. on this episode aura just explain that claire have a demon blood and she got the vampire blood when elizabeth bite her and her body is trying to adapt to the new blood. which aurora create her sigil (tattoos) to help claire adapt. which comes on the last part of the anime where in cid is mistakenly thinking that claire is in her chunibyo face with all that acting and the tattoos. oh boy oh boy. next arc is lit. cant wait to see your reactions.

2025-08-19 17:06:19 +0000 UTCSo my interpretation of what Aurora was saying, which could be wrong, is that not only does Claire have the blood of one of the three Heroes aka Possession, but it mixed with the Progenitor Blood from Elizabeth, both of which come from the same original source which is Aurora. It caused Claire's Possession symptoms to go out of control far more than the others because the mixture of the two is extremely potent and Elizabeth was basically causing a magical overload on everyone at the time. The difference between her and the others was that Elizabeth bit her which is what caused the mixing, hence why the others were only minorly affected by the overload. It's also that full mixing that essentially allowed Aurora to possess Claire for a brief time and the seal she left, mixed with Cid bringing the overload under control again, is meant to prevent that overload from the mixture from happening a second time. The implication is that Claire has the potential to be just as powerful as Cid in the future through separate means(note this is not a spoiler, it's speculation.), as the members of Shadow Garden only have the Possession, not the Progenitor Blood, and Claire now has both plus maybe a boost from Aurora, not sure. Side note because you didn't comment on it in the commentary and obviously no audio so not sure if you picked up on it, but Beta lost her arm but mentions that Eta is going to be upset implying it can be replaced. Not sure if the arm was already a replacement and she just lost it and that's why. Possible as well.
