I also appreciate the lampshade thrown over the MC by the unknowing front guard. This is a Catalog Fic after all, and despite objectively working for a much more cosmically horrifying form of evil who probably has worse things done to people than ‘just prison rape’ Jaycifer’s complexity also make it clear that he’s still more or less trying to be close to a moral person. It’s very likely that the little comment hit too close to being a meta attack on his person, which naturally pisses him off fiercely because there’s a vague kernel of truth to it. More than he’d ever care to admit.

2022-02-18 11:44:45 +0000 UTCHm, glad that it didn’t turn into complete ‘fix-it’ fic where MC can help everyone and always be in the right place in the right time. These fics tends to die fast, while what happened to Vi is horrific, it gave plot a push. Good chapter, arcane vibe.

2022-02-18 04:46:42 +0000 UTCAgreed, while dark and saddening it is the reality of the situation, and what likely happened is that the guards tried to take their turns with her “offering her their protection” and when she refused they disregarded their duties as guards and let the inmates do as they pleased to show her that having the “protection” of the guards is the better alternative. With a corrupt system what was shown so far about Piltover fixing this city/country isn’t going to be a simple tech uplift that benefits everyone, there will need to be some societal change to lessen the corruption, which is not something he can just punch or wave fancy tech at. It was a well written chapter that highlights a big part of what is wrong with Piltover.

2022-02-18 04:29:01 +0000 UTCGood job on the chapter though. Very well done execution, and the sheer horror and anger the character feels is palpable. It feels like a well earned emotional gut punch next to the lighter and more ambivalent tone the earlier portions set up.
