It's the fact that a lot of minor characters tend to have the story they're named after used as a shorthand for their backstory so they don't have to do anything difficult like come up with something original or less two dimensional where things become an issue.

Akira Toriyam named his characters after things he found in his freezer (Freeza), like vegetables (Vegeta), carrots (Kakaroto), and apples (Appul). I actually liked many of the refernces like team JNPR being inspired after folk heroes. But thats as far as I'm willing to defend RT...

2024-11-23 17:06:57 +0000 UTCYeah, if Khan took over immediately and almost no one left or splintered, it means she was in charge before Blake's parents left. Which is likely why her parents didn't decry the White Fang, because it would have splintered their powerbase while accomplishing nothing, while having their approval to run Menagerie would give them a consolidated power base to try and improve things there. Personally, I hope he drunkenly takes them into his pocket dimension and turns into a dragon and they all wake up talk about that weird dream only to find out it's true. I find that unlikely to happen, but I do kind of hope for it. Also, you can just FEEL the poor quality of the writing staff when such a large percentage of the cast is named after references and/or their color palette. Truly, they were doing a lot of worldbuilding and not phoning it in to make their job easier. If Blake actually becomes genre savvy she's going to go insane. "Is this why the Grimm said we weren't people? We're just echoes of old stories we've lost? Who's even doing this? Do I even have agency!?"

2024-11-23 05:19:32 +0000 UTCThat monologue Jauncifer gave in the middle of the chapter about how the Schnee dust company traps people is going to give people ideas. He was stating it as a hypothetical but his words are far too confident for someone whose just put a lot of thought into a subject. They sound like the words of someone whose had personal experience with the sort of company that does that to people. Rwby was definitely too drunk and Yang probably wouldn't think too hard about Jaunes words to come to the realization. A Ren/Weiss/Blake POV next chapter would probably work as they put the details together in their heads. After whatever drunken shenanigans occur get dealt with of course.

You take the mantle from your parents, who took it from theirs, and eventually you pass it along. Till hopefully one day it is no longer needed and can be just a part of history. It’s better to have incremental change then for things to keep getting worst then come to a head, since if you repress people long and hard enough happen they will lash out, and while a lot of the time that doesn’t change things, it might result in a revolution and those can cause a lot of damage both in human life and to society as a whole. So while things will improve after (usually) it will come at a steep cost.

2024-11-23 02:21:01 +0000 UTCSlow change likely won’t work or would take multiple generations to even get going given that the media would be under control of the SDC or the elites, and unlike our world the net is fresh and has a lot fewer chock points that can be used to filter stuff or at least cut off areas. With that being said the White Fang are stupid, they should almost exclusively target those towns once they got their own land, since they could have take people there. Granted disrupting the supply line that hard for what is essentially electricity, ammo, and almost everything else would likely result in a large scale conflict, specially if the people in charge can spin it as the animals attacking their fuel source. Not sure why no one else starts producing Dust, I don’t see any government/clan being ok with having a single company be a chock point for their entire supply line. So given a few years or decades I would expect people to start to mine their own dust and stockpile it for when they reach a critical point where they can say “fuck you we have our own supply” without fearing what happens if they are cut off. This scenario is comically stupid evil. On both sides. So many ways to better go about things, granted half of them will result in higher tensions between countries but that should not be a reason to accept what is basically an open air prison, or concentration camp. Someone like Neo would be one hell of an asset for disrupting towns like that (till they adapt to her), she would be able to make it look like people died in tunnels collapsing while smuggling them out.

That and a large ammount of sanity diffuse the situation quite well. I am actually interested if next chapter will be about everybody remembering their first time getting Blackout drunk and their shennigans while under the influence.
