This is a great point. Houses alone cannot fix homelessness, just as money alone cannot fix poverty. JBPeets uses this as excuse to ignore the poor altogether and practice classist patriarchal sociopathy, but housing plus education plus mental health care can turn people's lives around. And I think that's an inherently more worthwhile endeavor than making money.

Hi Olly, As much as I agree with your assessment that the market and the crisis are the exact same thing... I am more interested in pragmatic solutions. I mean, sure, when the revolution comes, abolish the housing market, but until then. (1) Severe limitations on short term rentals, including adequate monitoring and enforcement (2) Limitations on purchasing investment properties. (3) Other stuff... The purchase price of a home is so much more than the labour and materials that go into it. Not to mention the financing. What can be done to prevent market speculation or housing prices that increase faster than income and CPI does? There are some other parts of the housing crisis that aren't about housing. I've worked for Habitat for Humanity here in Canada, and other organizations that focused on the Indigenous homeless population. It's a very, very hard transition. Mental illness, and trauma keep a lot of homeless people from successfully moving into more stable housing situations. And, even moving families who have experienced multi-generational poverty in low-income rentals and putting them into a Habitat home was a struggle. These people often came from a place where they didn't grow up owning a home, none of their friends or family had ever owned a home - or even had a nice rental. Everything had been mouldy ceilings and toilets that didn't work. All Habitat homeowners had basic DIY and maintenance skills and training, and regular support from a social worker to learn about things like property insurance, or managing conflict with neighbours. But, there were failures. A lot of big, big successes. But, I guess, I am not convinced that a solution to "the housing crisis," can be resolved without also addressing mental health, and the other parts of growing up in poverty that hold people back from success.

Wow! Interesting genre shift! Your American accent was entertaining and pretty believable, though in some places I could hear traces of your real accent, but in fairness it is a lot of talking you're doing here. It's amazing how well these metaphors worked? I really liked the "commies *cough* comics" and "crisis of infinite sub-prime mortgages" jokes X3 Great job. Also, kudos to your character designer. I love Gentrification's design, instantly looks high-class, and the all white color scheme is some pointed symbolism. :)
