Hello lovely patrons!

Whew, this next video has been a lot of work to make! It's about Confucius, the ancient Chinese philosopher, so the research phase was tough cause there's piles of material to get through! It should be ready in the next week or so. In the meantime here are some screenshots to get you excited!

What started off as a plan to do a nice, nonpolitical video about Chinese philosophy soon became subtitled 'What To Do When Elites Break the Rules' - because as it turns out Confucius had plenty to say about this very timely topic!

I got out and about in London, doing some filming around Parliament!

Somewhat appropriately for the subject matter, the buildings themselves had a lot of scaffolding around them

I also got myself out to Trafalgar Square for parts of it!

And then it was back to the studio to film the rest!

One of the things I'll be explaining is how Chinese philosophy can be especially difficult owing to disagreements over translation

A simple translation error can have strange results...

You can't really tell from a still, but I'm using After Effects again to animate the quotes onto the screen

Honestly this was just a really fun shoot - very relaxed, the script pops well, the jokes land, it all moves along at a good pace, I'm pretty pleased with this one! It's got a nice jokey tone but the educational content is all there - a solid Philosophy Tube!

I'm also extremely grateful that famous British historian Sir Nigel Piss could join me to help explain how Chinese philosophy has been interpreted by Western thinkers, though I think some of his opinions might be a bit outdated...

This video will be subtitled from the get-go in English, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and, as a special treat, Simplified Chinese. $15+ Patrons will get to see it very soon, and for everybody else it'll be published pretty much as soon as those subtitles arrive!
