2023-09-06 15:52:21 +0000 UTCSpeaking of season length, the first scene was a based on FOX telling them they cut down their episodes in season 2 from 22 to 18 (but was homes built in the show). There’s also some meta commentary in season 3 about the behind the scenes. I won’t spoil anything, I’ll just say at the time the ratings weren’t great. And it wasn’t till it was released on dvd after it’s initial cancelation that the show really blew up in popularity and watching episodes back to back really let people see the brilliant writing and set ups. Stuff like the foreshadowing of buster losing his hand went over people’s heads, and they didn’t pick up on it till after watching it through multiple times in a short period of time. The traditional tv schedule didn’t do this show much favors sadly.

2023-09-06 08:26:09 +0000 UTCYet again, the amount of story they can pack into one episode is wild; I can't believe how much they fit into ep 16. I thought the season dragged just a tad from ep 6, 7, 8 through 15 (I know you like JLD but I find that storyline relatively lackluster, and both GOB and Tobias are maybe at their most tedious over that stretch too, with GOB screwing things up with Lucille Standpoor and Tobias' Featherbottom storyline... I could've used about 60% less...) but the final stretch, 16-17-18, is fantastic. And the first ep of season 3, too. You said you were sad to think about finishing the series; well, I get that, but I think we all (who have seen it already) would say that the finale is quite satisfying. A bummer that it ended too soon, but *how* it ended was really elegant.
