The Trollipocalypse

When Drew Durnil made his video in 2020 on the game NationStates—a game that allowed users to join and create their own sim govs ("regions")—he caused what the NationStates community called the "Drewpocalypse."

The Drewpocalypse saw a surge of new players join the game, leaving a permanent mark in NationStates' history.

The thing about the Drewpocalypse, however, was that its effect was relatively dispersed. NationStates is a game with tens of thousands of regions. While some regions undoubtedly benefited from the surge more than others, the surge of new arrivals was not concentrated in 1-4 regions.

Unfortunately, because of the way my latest documentary was structured, a small handful of sim govs were prominently featured as example case studies.

That, of course, wouldn't be a problem in and of itself ... were it not for the fact that the video got over 200,000 views in just 24 hours.

As a result, in less than 48 hours, I have:

1. Accidentally displaced the entire native population of r/SimDemocracy with my viewers, who appear to have formed an electoral pact to oust the pre-existing establishment parties in the next Senate election,

2. Caused repeated "server performance issues" on the Minecraft server of DemocracyCraft, and

3. Sparked surges of new arrivals in the other sim govs highlighted in the video.

So, uh ... whoops? Both thank you and apologies? 😭
