I think in your last album reaction I went on about how Shrike may possibily be my favourite Hozier song - and then this time I'm sitting here wondering how I could not choose From Eden. He's too good. I'm glad you're doing the music videos - he has such good ones and puts so much thought into them. it's not an official music video, and maybe someone will eventually request it in custom requests - but there's an absolutely beautiful video that a dancer did to Take Me to Church, that's just them dancing in an abandoned building, but it's gorgeous. I felt bad for you discovering what Cherry Wine was about! It is a really lovely sounding song, and I think that's kind of the brilliant play of it - that you can fool yourself into thinking something devasting is love. I appreciate that he made the music video with a female victim, since that's the majority of abuse victims - but I always loved the fact that the song was about a male victim. I had a friend who used to do workshops on how to spot abusive relationships... years later, he ended up in one himself - and maybe even because of the workshops, it took him a while to shake off the denial about what was happening, like surely with the genders involved and him knowing so much, it wouldn't happen to him. Foreigner's God, I also always interpreted as about Ireland in general... much like most of the world, the Irish had their own religion before Christianity arrived on their shows. You could argue that they adopted it willingly of course, anyone could argue that wherever they live in the world - but it IS a religion that didn't originate there, that came in over the sea like the English language and the British Empire. I'm looking forward to the further Hozier adventures! I always joke with my friends that I absolutely love listening to Hozier, the only problem is that afterwards I feel HAUNTED.

I got there at an ungodly hour, but I was the third person from the stage right in front of his mic. Seeing him perform live like that was life changing. We requested Fist Time and he played it, and them in Rio they asked for First Light and he played that too. I'm sure you're going to enjoy his show immensely. Also this was absolutely fantastic, thank you!

2025-06-22 04:21:36 +0000 UTCThe From Eden music video is one of my absolute favorite things. For one, It has one of my personal favorite actresses, Katie McGrath. But the video itself is so simple, yet so masterful. The juxtaposition of their dynamic with each other and the boy versus what they're doing to survive is so heartbreaking. There's also the fact that they're struggling to keep themselves afloat as it is, but instead of leaving the boy where they found him so they wouldn't have to deal with him, they take him with them. Like you said, probably because they saw themselves in him and couldn't abandon him. And that last shot of Katie's character with her forehead against the boy's gets me every time. A genius artist at work!
