The author is going to reach a point where a significant amount of plot threads would reach a satisfying conclusion, while it probably won't be able to answer everything. If the series were to continue we'd probably get to see the gang leave the deadlake and grow to the levels of the grey man, etc., but that will most likely be left to the reader's imagination.

I can see how it could be difficult to continue, although it does leave some big questions unanswered, like the nature of Kai's monstrous abilities, what the deal is with the pits that the Incursion monsters come from, why the grey man brought in the invaders... can all those questions really be answered in a satisfactory way in the remaining chapters?
