That's really kind, thank you 💙💙☺️

Yeah, I've already recorded it :)

Love that you pointed out that the fallout is more severe for Xander just before it gets even more severe lol I've wondered about the "who told" thing before as well, and all I can guess is that Xander and Willow were not as discreet as they thought they were, and no one wanted to tell Cordelia. I also wonder what was going through Cordelia and Jonathan's minds when that happened. Did Cordelia have any empathy at all for this guy's existence being used as the butt of a joke against her?

The way ASH (Giles) delivers that “because it has to be” gets me every. single. time. All of the Giles praise, all of it. 🙌🏻

One of my favourite episodes, hands down. It’s an excellent "what if" scenario, and while I usually don't love when a reset button gets hit at the end of an episode, this one pulls it off so well that I don’t mind at all. It’s also incredibly rewatchable. Killing Cordelia halfway through was, as you mentioned, a bold move that really raises the stakes. Seeing the Master return was super cool, too. His plan being a subtle allegory for the dystopian practices we engage in, reminiscent of the hell dimension from the season opener, without being heavy-handed is excellent. I also loved the imagery of the Master killing Buffy at the end. This version of her—friendless, hardened, and badass—is still no match for him. It highlights that at least some of her strength as a Slayer comes from her relationships, especially her friends and Giles’ mentorship. That theme recurs throughout the series and is executed so well here and while Faith isn't in this episode there is some interesting juxtaposition there and something you are clearly well locked in on already. The central message about how crucial Buffy is and how dark things get without her presence really hits home. And I still vividly remember watching this as a teenager—seeing vamp Willow in that leather outfit was... definitely something! 😂 Great reaction, as always!

I don't have much to add about what you said about this episode. I mean it was already established that what sets apart Buffy from the other slayers is Giles and her friends. But it is always good to see what could have been. I kind of love these types of "concept" episodes. Plus, it allows the actors to play a different version of their character which is always fun (for both them and us). I just wonder what it's like to live in Cleveland in BTVS's world now... Concerning your point of view on meat consumption, I partially agree. I think there's no problem in eating meat (I do so but not on every meal). The real problem is on two things in my opinion: First, the huge amount of meat that is eaten in the world. We can all benefit from eating less and better meat. It is unhealthy and very bad for the environment. Everyone could eat twice less meat a week and it will be better for both our sakes and the planet sake. Of course, the issue is about mass production as it's stated in this episode (it really is a demonic concept). We produce way more meat than we consume. All that meat that is not eaten is just a waste of resources. Second, the conditions of breeding, housing and particularly killing the animals are atrocious. Everyone should visit a slaughterhouse and then (after they finished vomiting of course) decide if they want to be part of this system. It is possible to provide healthy living conditions and a lot less hurting process to produce meat. But, for that, you have to choose carefully your meat producers (which is certainly not possible in the context of mass production). And, as a former researcher on animal physiology, I just want to open a debate about animal suffering. Is it comparable to human suffering? Should we make a difference between the two? How are you certain that plants don't feel pain when we cut them? How do we even define what is pain? Those are not so simple questions (and yet my master thesis was about neuropathic pain so I consider myself to know quite a lot on this topic). Please stay polite if you want to give your opinion on the subject, I asked only because I am curious about what people think about on this matter (and Tyler kind of give me an opportunity here^^).

Great commentary to a great episode - and I, for one, enjoyed the vegan tangent! 🌱 Whether or not it was intentional, it's definitely an analogy I've always felt was there. (And yet, as horrible as the vamps' production line was, it was still relatively tame in comparison to the practices and production lines in a slaughterhouse. She got to have a lie down!)

Dude. This reaction to one of the fan favorite episodes (Vampire Willow!!!!) was brillant. Love all the commentary. Love how you're warming up to Cordy. All love. And btw Tyler, you don't need to apologize for your morals on the mass production on animals, it's okay- here in the US we're eating the dogs and the cats. Haven't you heard? :)

Tanya TMS

Great episode. It shows that a slayer does so much better with friends.

Allan Cornett

Love your commentaries, so insightful as always. Also, will you rewatch Gingerbread (episode 11), this was the middle episode you watched in your first, middle, last series? I’m happy either way, just interested to hear the plan. Thanks

Your commentaries are brilliant, Tyler! So much more developed than most channels. Don't worry, there's plenty more of Faith's story that will unravel as Season 3 continues...

Millie H

Seems worth pointing out that if Buffy never went to Sunnydale, then she never drowned, and neither Kendra nor Faith has ever been called as a Slayer.

Dipper

This is such a great episode (in a season full of great episodes haha). Really enjoyed your commentary as always!

Love this “What if?” Episode. Yes it is a bottle episode that doesn’t push the plot forward, but I like the more character driven aspect in this version of the universe. It reinforces the importance of our heroine, and her having a healthy support system to keep her, and in turn the world, more hopeful ❤

Yesss I've been looking forward to this, definitely a top 10 for me 🥰
