Early Timber Frame Preview for December

UPDATE: NOV27

Update: Things are not going as quickly, the variations basically turn each building into about 2.3 buildings of work. I realized in testing that I had rushed some things and the placement and expression of beams was not what was needed to allow for the fast painting approach I wanted. There’s not much point in making boxes if they are not going to be prefect. Additionally, the irregular roof shapes I need for a few of the parts in development are very time consuming when it comes to the variations. Short story long,  I’ve started redoing about 1/3 of the work I had done and another 1/3rd will be pushed forward for future releases. I’m also starting a new corner that should allow for 4 roof variations. We are looking at 3 size rectangles and 1 corner for a base timber frame and then there will be expansion parts like the Walls in the next walls. I’ll probably need to take a few extra days, I advertise release by the 4th and I’ll probably need to take some of those days between the 1st and the 4th this month. Body parts will include 3 bases, 2 mids , and 3 roofs for all the builds. Thatch variations will be pushed forward. Thatch buildings would not be side by side like this and will require a more drastic augmentation.

Patches Update: I have released a few variations of the LV1 keep on MMF. There have been some sticky parts on some slicers. The deal is things are always changing with new versions of slicers coming out all the time. Many of the issues can be avoided by rotating parts but it is starting to not always work. Slicers are increasingly set up to find there own version of mesh errors. These systems of error scrubbing have never been consistent and this is spilling over more now that every slicer is becoming it’s own mesh fixer. The bottom line is that the gold standard Netfab scrub is over scrubbing and causing issues for slicers. I’m going to try a little lighter touch on the error hunting and we will see how it goes.

Doing a short preview for December,  I have a lot to do and do not want to waste a day setting up renders. Hopefully I can add some test prints here soon.  Next month I intend to release a set of fully modular timber frames houses. First and foremost, these are designed for speed painting. There is really no such thing but these are as close as it gets. No third story, no kick outs, no Victorian gothic anything. I’ve spent the last few months determining the best timber shapes and spacing for optimal paint blocking while still getting detail. These are all based on our stand-alone timber beta from September which I think looks great and is basically primer and then a 1 ½ coat speed paint. They will break down this way.

3 rectangles (wide, narrow, medium)

1 45 degree turn house

3 corner (90 degree turn) houses

All 2 stories tall

Each house will have 3 foundation styles (stone, Clean Plaster, Dilapidated Plaster)

Each house will have two  2nd story styles(Clean Plaster, Dilapidated Plaster)

Each House will Have 3 Roof styles ( Clean, Dilapidated, Dilapidated Plaster with Clean roof)

There will be subtle variations on each of these three in terms of timber, chimney and roof shape.

All these parts will be interchangeable.

Things I’m looking at

Adding a thatch style roof, especially to help with them being used as standalone instead of side by side.

Adding some houses with the long side having the street with maybe ½ second story buildings.

Anyways I’m going back to it, it is a lot but I’d prefer to get it out in one month. Either way I’ll get as much out as I can and then people can decide what else they want to make it work. I expect there will be at least a  half set expansion at some point, maybe doubled up with a ruin variation.

These look very nice! Take your time and don't rush too much. It will be worth it for everyone in the end.

Not that you asked, but I'd rather you release late than release and have to update.
