Invisible String Reaction

Hey folks, please enjoy. I really love this melody, and on re-listening during my edit, it might be my favorite of her melodies so far. Also keep an eye out for All Too Well reaction next week. And thanks for the idea Liane de Liz.

Invisible String Reaction

Comments

She's not being sarcastic, the song is just about that. How she didn't see the signs but there was an invisible strings tying her to Joe, and that she was always going to one day meet him and be with him. From where they were as teenagers, to then Bad Blood playing in the cab, to eating at her favorite restaurant. The baby present to Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner makes her happy because she realizes how far apart she is from it, how she has moved on, and they are friends now, and she can send him a baby gift and it is genuine and its about the baby, how wonderful life is that she can look back at her teenage self and be at peace with everything, you've grown up, and it was worlds away. This song has my favorite bridge on folklore. "A STRING that pulled me Out of all the wrong arms right into that dive bar Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed WIRE CHAINS around my demons, WOOL to brave the seasons One single THREAD of gold tied me to you" its brilliant. 4 lines, 5 String, wire, chain, wool, and thread. She is absolutely brilliant.

This song to me is the one most obviously about her own life rather than characters on the album. She uses a lot of the same imagery to refer to her current relationship over the past few albums - the dive bar, the color gold, etc. And I think this song completely embraces the idea of fate - naivete and all - rather than rejects it. "isn't just so pretty to think" makes me feel like she's acknowledging it's a somewhat childish idea, but she really feels like she was led to her current relationship. And it's easier to accept her past heartaches if she sees them as steps to the relationship she has now - not that she needed a new relationship to get over the old ones, but it was a part of it.
