Ahhh thank you for this! I have never been a Beyoncé fan aside from radio singles and admiring her in general for her voice and influence. But I listened to this album on repeat for a month straight after it was released. I think it's such a special album. It's fun and funny, and also deeply personal and important. It's a master class in American music history. It is political, but in a wonderfully Beyoncé way. She knew it would be political the minute she said she was doing country, and she does address that on the album. Thank you so much for your thoughtful analysis of this song. I would adore it if you would go through the entire album. It's a story and so powerful to listen to beginning to end. American Requiem, track 1, gives a mission statement of the album and does speak directly to the people who aren't open to a Beyoncé country album. There are genre bending surprises and gorgeous lyrics and of course her voice... I would watch them all, anyway, and I came here for your Taylor Swift reactions first.
