The rabbit has been wandering the plains near Brackendown woods for much of the afternoon, trying to find the source of the strange musical notes floating through the air. His own playing of the lute was not so much interrupted as it was complimented by the strange, deeper notes wafting in the gentle breeze.
Thankfully his long lapine ears were excellent at locating and understanding sources of music, a trait that served him well during the years he had lived as a minstrel in the local taverns he frequented. Despite the sound bouncing between the woods and the formation of large rocky features known to locals as the lostrocks the minstrel was able to work out the source, a small clearing at the edge of the woods that was akin you a bay oont he edge of the coast in shape.
In retrospect, he should not have been too surprised that whatever had created the alluring noise was some kind of creature and not a person. Still, the sight before him was one that he had difficulty gauging the danger of.
Of the two breeds of Fennec Wolf, the Plains subspecies and the Forest one were differentiated by only one characteristic: Size. Plains Fennec wolves were known to be notably larger then Forest Fennec Wolves, in some cases almost double the size. It has long been suspected that this has enabled them to hunt the larger animals of the plains, where the Forest Fennec Wolves have to contend with smaller spaces to walk and hunt in within the deeper woodland.
In this case the minstrel with faced with a Plains Fennec Wolf, far larger then a lowly rabbit would be. While this may be cause for alarm, this particular Plains Fennec would seemed to be less inclined to hunt, laying on it;s belly with one paw tucked over the other. It did not seem particularly surprised that a person had come across it, but it didn't seem that concerned by the situation.
Fennec Wolves, much as their name suggests, are creatures that resemble wolf-sized fennec foxes, with outlandish large ears and a great amount of fluff to themselves. Alternating between an excitable state and one of a more calmer persuasion, these creatures seem to be one of the more sensitive and less aggressive creatures in terms oh physical attacks, though they have an ace up their sleeve when it came to special abilities; their curious vocals which they use to hunt with.
The pause between them seemed to last for a while as the two watches each other. Fennec Wolf with its head tilted slightly to the side, minstrel with his lute held and one paw on the strings, paused mid pluck. The movement lasted just a bit longer before the lutist tried his luck, testing to see if he truly found the source of the strange noise, or simply came across another potential danger. He chose his chord carefully, and gently moves his paw over the strings, claws catching at just the right parts to bring a melody of a few notes.
The Fennec wolf reacted immediately, tilting it's head back a little as it made a return call, low pitched but somehow in tune, a complimentary noise that seeped with a relaxing and pleasing aspect. Truly, the rabbit had found the source of his unexpected duet.
Pleasantly surprised, the lapine dared not speak, not break this magical, enchanted moment. Instead he played another chord, and once again the large canine replied with a half howl that matched with a deeper tone. And then another was complimented with another precise call back.
With no words, the minstrel knew what must be done. What had to be shared with the world. There may not be an audience save the two themselves but it mattered not, the world would be their audience. Properly resting his lute for what lay ahead, he played a song that he made along the way. A song that was played together with Rabbit and Fennec Wolf as they faced each other.
The melody was a haunting one, calming and soothing to the ears as it floated in the wind, the minstrel playing higher notes and leaving the deeper ones for the Fennec Wolf to fill in which it did with an intuition that the minstrel would have considered praticed. The music played like a story, not telling any great struggle or strife, but simply capturing the peaceful warmth of the sun, the gentleness of the cooling wind, the calmness of the shade from the trees.
The music went on much of the afternoon, neither of the two interested in stopping the melody until the music itself had reached the conclusion of its tale Long before it had ended, the minstrel had appeoaches the Fennec Wolf and sat between it's paws, the larger creature content to let him rest there as it kept it's own vocals in tune with the minstrels lute, its ears tucked back with each reply.
It seemed that the music might not end with such a warm seasonal flow, but as all things do, the end started to come, notes and harmonies tieing themselves up to conclusions as the tale reached it's end with a relaxed, dreamy fade. The last acts of the improvised masterpiece were felt through the minstrels body, the canines own music vibrating deep through his whole body, keeping him relaxed, keeping him inspired, but also keeping the music to it's fading exit.
When the last note was played by lapine and canine alike, the music maker put down his lute and sighed. Never before had be played such a tune, and he was sure he could never repeat it alone. But it mattered not, for he had played it, been relaxed by it, and now he could rest, the Fennec Wolfs content rumbled against his back as he sat there, feeling as blissful to his body as the music had been to his senses.
When the snout tip of the Fennec Wolf nosed between the minstrels ears, the musician wondered if his calming sonnet, if the enjoyable vibrations going through his body, were to be interrupted by the savage teeth of a terrible and savage creature. Instead, no bite came, no crunching or attack. Simply a soft nuzzle and the opening of the jaws to give little more then a continuation of the strange noises the canine made, the Fennec Wolf gently vibrating the rabbit far more then previously, the music and sensations flowing through him in a very literal sense.
It's possible that if the minstrel attempted to resist this exposure to the strange audio abilities of the canine he would struggle to fight back, but as it was his appreciation for the music, and for the Fennec wolfs own abilities with sound kept him as relaxed as the vibrations did in working on his muscles, and on his very mind, loosening both into a stupor that dazed the lapine in bliss.
He did not know then the lute was removed. For some reason the Fennec Wolf deemed the instrument either not needed anymore, or wished to have it in the canines own paws. It mattered not, who was this minstrel to deny a fellow skilled musician the method to make such merry noise? Though his half closed eyes, the rabbit saw the lute was treated with the utmost of care and respect and thus could only conclude the Fennec Wolf had the same respect for such sweet melodies.
By the time the rabbit felt the broad tongue glide across his head, drawing up one ear as drops of wetness dropped from the teeth of the canine onto his face, he cares not for what was happening. The vibrations through him had long pushed him into a blushing submissive state, surrendered to the music, to the music maker.
He had taken precautions weeks ago from a fancy mouse in a nearby town in case of him needing rescue but with how things are now, why would he not wish to remain with the source of such wonderful audio ability? Why not let himself be close to the source of the blissful, pleasurable physical sounds that ease his musical itch as much as they tease his body's muscles and organs.
Throughout the attentions if gave, the Fennec Wolf remained relaxed and pleased. The minstrel was a fascinating creature to it, one that was able to keep pace with the canines musical ability, but stood no chance of matching the deep, vibrating noises the creature could cast.
It decided that it would enjoy this rabbit, take as long, possibly longer, then it did with many of the relaxed meals it gained. After all, this minstrel lapine was one that could appreciate it's abilities, be it while between the paws, or inside the belly~
