Just keeping in touch...

So for the last days I've been upgrading our method of handling translations.

For years we had translations either pulled from Global ROM or from a repository maintained by a translation team from the community.

It was a direct copy process, which works, but is very flawed.

Global translation is updated more often, so when it's being replaced with community translations, this results in missing translations for certain languages across the system for new features.

This has now been upgraded. The Global translation is used as a base for all supported languages. Then, translations that are maintained by translation teams from the community are merged into the Global translation (instead of a total file replacement).

And so, our ROMs will have a hybrid of both translations, and "holes" in the translation will be less common. This also means translators don't have to obsessively keep up with each and every new piece of text that Xiaomi adds, without the fullness of the translation being affected.

Cheers, and let's all have a peaceful weekend.

Igor, Xiaomi.eu Lead Dev.
