Food Vibes: Meal Planning

I know it is very much my 'tism to eat the same things over and over again, but I honestly am curious what other people do. If you're not eating the same thing all the time, how do you decide what to eat?

Do you have like...specific meals you rotate throughout the week, or do you decide each individual day? What if you don't feel like having the thing you normally have?? Do you just eat it anyway, or do you make/order something else? And if you have something else, how do you decide?

I have a standard grocery list that I get each week that I do not deviate from 🫣 and I eat things in the order that they expire, which is usually the same order each week (although not always, and that is always uncomfortable for me 😅). I make things the same way every time. And if I am not feeling it, I order one of like...maybe 3 things for delivery.

But then when I'm having friends over, I feel weird that I'm like...I still need to have the same thing 😅🙈 WHAT IF THEY GET BORED?! What if they don't want what I'm having and also don't want any of the three things I order? I guess they just...would not have dinner with me 😂 That is an option.

This, by the way, is also why I really should just take down the treatstream at this point 😅 None of the things on there are things I order from myself (different options on Treatstream 🤷‍♀️), so they mess with the flow of what I normally eat and it's just so rare that I'm okay with that 🙈

Typically if I'm going out for dinner or going to someone else's house, that's a different scenario in my brain, so I am much more open and okay with deviating from my usual meals. That's an outing. It's totally different from eating at home. The rules are different!

But I think lately, because I got so aggressively burnt out and I'm ultimately still recovering from that and probably will be for a while (hence the commitment to taking a week off each month for now), I'm way less open to change 😅 I need comfort. I need to know I'm going to want and like things. And I need to not have to make decisions around what to eat 🙈

So...what is your process? How do you go about deciding what to eat?

Living day by day lol Its really hard for me to plan stuff like food. Even when I have the ingredients, I often just forget about it and have to throw them away ._.

also I get super excited when I find new fruits and veggies I have never heard of in the store, will tend to buy them and figure how to eat or cook them later 😅 Like the other day I found soursops at a specialized produce store. They're very floral tart, and creamy. 🤤

Oh man, this is a hard question for me to answer 😅 I'm like the opposite: I'm very spontaneous and not routine oriented at all 😅And how I cook and eat depends on what's going on in my life. Like it depends if I'm working on a show or not. If I'm working, I do the absolute bare minimum since they have catering and craft services on set. And I only ever cook for stream, when I actually have then energy to do so. But even when I'm on break between shows, it depends. Since I am a cooking streamer and bake socially, I tend to choose where I shop based on what I need to specifically make in the near future. If I need to bake, I'll hit up the baking & catering supply shop. If I need specific ingredients, I'll hit up an ethnic grocery store (from Korean to Filipino to Mexican to Armenian). Or if I need my re-up on my freezer proteins, I'll make the trek to Costco. And depending on the store I go to, I'll usually fold in my personal grocery shopping into that store, adapting to the specializations each store has. I LOVE grocery shopping, it's something my family did together growing up, so grocery stores of all kinds are super nostalgic for me. I love wandering around browsing through the produce and meats, checking what's fresh and in season, and brainstorming what to make. And so I'll usually opt for ingredients for 1 or two dishes along with base common aromatics like mirepoix, the cajun holy trinity, or basic curry aromatics for flexibility. BUT I also know I tend to cook in phases, so I'll have high energy days of buzzing around the kitchen, and other days where I eat like a gremlin. So I make sure I include easy to eat items in my shopping basket (eg. dolmas and labneh at the Mediterranean store, Kimchi and Kimbop from the Korean store, or salmon burgers and greek yogurt from Costco or the catering shop etc) for those gremlin days ^_~ And what I cook on the day depends on if there is a stream/specific bake I need to make, how much energy I have, or what expires first. But the truly interesting days are the pantry raid days, where I don't have any specific plans. Like today, I made a tabouli like salad with carrot tops, slivered almonds, and cherry tomatoes. I tend to be pretty aware of what perishable ingredients I have and will try and use them up before going on the next shopping trip! ^^ So yeah, that's generally how I decide to cook. For traveling I ask around, check reddit, and read a lot of travel/food blogs beforehand. I'll make the reservations for the places I know I need to plan for, and I google pin the rest. The idea is no matter what neighborhood I end up around meal time, I'd ideally would have some options to choose from in the vicinity. And yeah That's how I generally eat ^^
