First Mixes: Vampires Vibe Check
Added 2025-10-25 19:30:52 +0000 UTCSURPRISE! I lied on the calendar, and instead of getting more vampires bedroom recordings, today you get the first vibe check for vampires with vocals, and next week you might just get the first ever recording of the yet-to-be-shared NEW co-write with Tom 👀
I wish I had the foresight to have saved all of the original vibe checks and mixes for each song, so I could really show you all the full progression, but alas, I only managed to keep some of them 🤦♀️ This one, though, I think is really cool!
It's only the second chorus to the end of the song, but you can really hear a lot of pretty major differences in this first check versus the final song, particularly leading into the bridge!
I won't get too much into the nitty gritty of things because I'm honestly really interested to hear your thoughts and what differences you hear! But I will tell you that Alanna was absolutely incredible every step of the way with each song of the EP, and it was incredibly easy to communicate what I wanted with her.
There's a lot I don't know about production, so the majority of my feedback isn't "this is how I want things to change", but rather "is it possible to do it this way instead?". Because there truly are some things that just aren't super straight forward with production. For example, I learned with "I'm Here" that it actually sounds pretty weird to have tempo changes in a produced acoustic song, because the tempo changes are more jarring. So while I know what I think will sound better, I don't know that I'm right, or if things are possible, or in Alanna's wheelhouse. 😅
All I will say prior to hearing your thoughts is that through all of the versions of this song, one of the main things I focused on was just adjusting vocal levels! For example, which vocals were more forward vs more background, when vocals should get louder (and how loud) vs. quieter (and how quiet), etc. Also, I feel the need to share with your my favourite comment from Alanna in working on this song:
I love how creepy the song is for most of it, but there's something about the end where you're like "fuck it i'm a monster i guess" and just go hard and I kind of wanted the song to follow that
As you should want that, Alanna. As you should. 😂 And well done!

biggest difference i notice straight away is the missing disc scratch. its such a great break and turning point. combined with the raspy belt its just so freaking awesome. i like that the end is already pretty close to the final version. just crushed it right away 👌
