Tutorial Preview

I spent the majority of the past 15 days working on the upcoming tutorial for 202X Mode. Here is a short video preview of what it's like!

It might be somewhat underwhelming, because of the lack of voice acting. The voiceover narration from Kokona is what will make the tutorial into the experience that it's meant to be.

Still, even though this video lacks voice acting, it still demonstrates the "gameplay loop" of the tutorial - select tutorial from menu, follow the instructions onscreen, become familiar with one or two gameplay mechanics, return to the menu for the next lesson. Each lesson is designed to familiarize new players with a different aspect of the game.

You can also get a sense of how the music will change during the tutorial; there are four versions of the background track:

The track that plays will depend on what the player is currently doing in the tutorial, and as the situation changes, the music will seamlessly blend from one track to another.

15 tutorials are planned, and so far, 12 of them are completed. I've created a Trello page where you can see a checklist of what has been done and what remains to be done on the tutorial:

https://trello.com/b/J0BiY9CS/yandere-simulator

However, I wouldn't recommend compulsively refreshing the page every few seconds to check for updates. Over the next few days, I won't be working on the tutorial; I'll be working on some videos that I plan to release before the end of the month.

The tutorial is going to involve a short cutscene and some voice acting. The tutorial won't be "complete" without that cutscene and voice work, so even if I finish all of my work on the tutorial, I won't release it until I have received and implemented the required animations and voice acting.

The animations I require are already in development, and are turning out great. I haven't requested the voice acting yet, because I'm still finalizing the script, but it will be requested soon.

That's the current state of things! I'll be back in a few days with an interesting video!

I guess you could for instance make it more obvious that this is just a theatrical performance. Like by making it more obvious that the weapons are fake, making the blood look like a fake blood by giving it a different color or removing it completely, replacing the fire with something else etc. I guess there is also the possibility of the interpretation that the protagonist sees the world in her own distorted way in that moment and imagines that the things that are happening are real even though they are not; maybe this can be made more obvious somehow.

I think that this idea might need a bit of refinement. (What a nice coincidence that a part of the school teaches someone how to become a serial killer right before there is a need for this person to become a serial killer. And once the person actually becomes a serial killer the school suspects nothing regarding who it might be even though the person ends up using exactly the same methods of committing crimes that were explained by the drama club. Also the last final test where you have to utilize everything you have learned so far doesn't seem very realistic for a theatrical performance.) But in general I like the whole idea and would give it a thumbs up. I guess there is also the possibility of the excuse that games are not obliged to be perfectly logical. I am not saying that the idea is bad, but with some improvements it might be even better. And to be honest at this point in time I do not have very clear improvement suggestions. I'm just saying: Keep the idea, but try to add a bit more polishing to it if you can.

It's a fancy word for "Death by burning."

I have a question: What does immolation mean?

YowiElCrack

Wow!! This looks amazing! Love how you used the drama club as well.

It is not currently planned to be an aspect of the tutorial update, but if players express need for a "get used to the school environment" day, then it will be added to the game.

YandereDev

Hey YanDev, will the "orientation day" be included in the tutorial update? Or will it be added at a later date?

Yunama-Official

very cool yandev
