Yesterday's videos

Just a quick update! I've decided that I'm going to redo yesterday's videos. Several people have said the same thing - stating that Beevor 'lies' could get me in trouble. And, thinking about it, they're probably right. I will therefore be redoing the videos and using less harsh language. Tough decision, and I think this is the first time I've had to do this, but it's a lesson learnt. It will also give me a chance to improve the video, since I was a little robotic in it. I'll have a video up on the channel explaining to everyone later. Sorry for this.

Cheers!

Yeah, I agree. At the very least, my argument about Beevor's Nijmegen bit being wrong was backed up. And noboby's really questioning that (some are, but again, I can defend that). What most people disagreed with was the word "lie", and the accusation that Beevor was doing this because he didn't want to upset the American readership. I don't have evidence that says Beevor lied, or that he was avoiding placing the blame on the US generals. I don't have hard evidence for either. So, yes I think historians should be bold and provide provocative arguments (that's what's fun about history!), but I think I pushed it a little too far here. Cheers!

Thank you Afflickted. Unfortunately, I have let it get me down. But I have learnt from my mistake, and I want to deliver above and beyond what I've delivered so far, to make up for it. I can now confirm (since I've just making finished it) that the new Beevor review coming Monday is much better than last week's videos :)

if not to be provocative and contribute to historical study then what do we do as historians. How can we move forward as historians without provocation. I understand your choice to remake you’re video for a wider audience. However I appreciate a commitment to ones argument. You had supporting evidence and proved your argument. On viewing the video i found myself agreeing with your interpretation. Though I also agree with your efforts to remain impartial and academically professional in your video. It pains me the need for political correctness and politeness with historical study. I much prefer a bold and provocative argument which gets people thinking as long as it is supported by clear academic evidence. As always keep up the good work!!

I think that shows great maturity on your part to admit fault and retract the video. Don't let things like this get you down or dishearten you. We live and we learn, and what you do is fantastic.
