In panel 5 there's no breath-condensation: he's not talking or exhaling during that beat. Nice use of a winter-outdoor-setting-only artist's resource!

I feel like if they were going to reflect on it, they'd have done it by now. I think it's hypothetically possible they will now that their golden child is saying it too but I'm not holding my breath without evidence of change.

2024-01-23 05:15:01 +0000 UTCI always like these strips that are sequences of similar panels, and this one has a great progression of head-tilts and facial expressions, with Walky rubbing his hands together as he starts the wishful-thinking scenario. The first borderless panel highlights the center of this scenario: the hope that a small stimulus can eventuate in a big change over time. The second borderless panel highlights Walky's anxious pivot to the reality of the months ahead, where little change in his parents' attitude can be expected. As Jennifer expected, he has done the right thing, in his own fashion.

2024-01-23 05:05:39 +0000 UTCYesterday's comments were mostly "yeah they were not gonna change", but it's worth remembering that Walky was just as hostile when Sal first pointed the pattern out, and he also stormed off immediately after, just like his mom did. I'm not holding out hope for Charles and Linda, but they aren't necessarily doomed to ignorance at this point, especially if they never noticed the dynamic.
