Tangle, Tussle, Tiger epilogue

Epilogue

Charthur wasn’t used to this kind of poem. The work had progressed slowly.

Charthur was used to poetry being "soft.” Each phrase occurred to her fully-formed, leaving only the delicate task of arranging them. The interesting part was intertwining these phrases; letting their effect build off each other without losing the original power each one held. Creating th...

Here's the epilogue! -

For the second time that day, Charthur awoke. She found herself on her side, her face pressed into Jasmaby's chest. Each gentle rise and fall came with a breath that tickled the hair on the back of her head. Charthur realized that Jasmaby had ended up curled around her, defining a pocket that she fit into exactly. A place, just for her.

The throbbing wasn't going away.

Charthur groaned, and tried to manage her head out of the pillow it was trapped in. Her limbs were dead, mouth dry, head pounding. Sunlight obnoxiously streamed into the room, trying far too hard to be pleasant for Charthur's taste. She snarled at the warmth on her face and let herself collapse back into her pillow. As if there was any point in feeli...

She was walking home. She must have walked away again. Did anything else happen? Did she say anything else? Probably not. Well, would it have mattered at this point? Probably not.

As she walked, she let ice form between the knuckles of her hands, repeatedly cracking it as soon as it had grown thick enough. The result was a rhythmic crack and a thin trail of something resemb...

Chapter 3

Charthur was frustrated. No one was putting up a good fight today. What was their problem? She had found herself descending on one tiger after the next, savagely tearing into them, not one able to turn aside her blows. And now everyone seemed to be avoiding her? No getting around it, she was pissed. Everyone and everything was turning out to be a disappointment.

Oh...

Where is he? Why is this taking so long? thought Charthur. She had captured this zone for a reason — it was the largest capture point in play, with almost nothing in the way of obstacles. This would be the perfect place for Jasmaby to try and force a showdown between them, with no cover for Charthur to shield herself from his fireballs. So where is he? she tho...

Some time later, Charthur found herself in the fashion district again. It was the section of the Dewclaw market she was least familiar with: she had her style, and found nothing to be interested in among the stalls and shops here. Which was a problem — she didn’t have a good excuse for wandering through.

She brought the back of her paw to her cheek again. The image of Jasm...

Charthur stepped over Adrian’s surfboard and scrambled up the slope of his wave, frozen in place. From its peak, she surveyed the scene. The square had emptied out, perhaps thanks to news of her arrival traveling ahead of her. The war was still young, the two teams still feeling out their matchups.

It had been a week and a half since the last war. In that time, Charthur had ...

“Hey, welcome back!” Nim called out from the kitchen as Charthur returned to the house. He emerged, still drying a dish. “How’d it go?” Charthur could only stare at him. She was suddenly aware of her heavy breathing — she must have been running and not realized it. Nim cringed at her silence. “That bad, huh? Well, look, he’s new in town, I’m sure you’ll have time to…...

Hours later, after the war had ended, Charthur still had a slight bruise on her skin, as well as a feeling in her stomach she was currently blaming on Jasmaby’s counter-punch. She stepped through the door of her house to find Nim waiting for her, two mugs of tea sitting on the living room table.

“That’s what happens when you don’t listen to me, roomie,” Nim said, pus...

A story Opa-opa wrote last year, but that is finally going to go up on the site in installments!

Charthur tugged her sickle out of Bastion’s chest and continued her way down the alley. He had been retreating and, tragically for him, ran into her coming the other way — in a tight space like this, he hadn’t lasted even five seconds. It was the third time in a row that ...
