When exploring caves/dungeons, chances of hostile encounters are very high. Bandits, goblins, demons, drows, etc...
The lucky adventurers may instead encounter elves in distress. Maybe adventurers themselves, who were defeated by a stronger opponent.

If you want a fairy to stay put, don't just tie her arms and legs. Even together, she may still fly away, especially if her back is exposed - for her wings-.
Instead make sure to tier her to something, or to put her in a jar.
