As you can see, I did this in three sittings.
I swear that I can actually write romance, it's just impossible to condense into bullet points without straight up writing dialog.

The characters in The Scientific Method/TSM meet at a rewards show where the dress code is "formal but poorly enforced." Todio is wearing something sort of winter semi-formal, Elizabeth is actually in formal, Louis is wearing an ill-fitting suit because he does NOT care, Karen is wearing causal clothes because she is a rapscallion and mostly using the rewards show as an excuse to trave...

I finally have something solid worked out for Terranaut's latter half! Sorry if it's incomprehensible in this form, but bullet points are honest to god the only method of writing plot that works for me. I may do a second outlining pass with this to get more scene-to-scene detail, but the next step after that would just be rough comics. I almost never type out scripts, I get frustrated that I ca...

I'm collaborating with botanist and writer Quill Garsay (better known as botanyshitposts.tumblr.com) for the third volume of Almost Real: A Speculative Biology Zine. Bloodwort are a carnivorous species of Isoetes (an ancient lineage of plants in the Lycopsid clade) with needle sharp blades strengthened by silica. Their ...

Hey folks! I need time to make presents and prepare for a flight to Canada, so comic pages are on hold until mid-January. I will keep posting sketches and development stuff here during that time, though.
I'm encountering an unexpected situation with Terranaut. I had estimated it at 50 pages when I started thumbnails, but it's become obvious that it's gonna be at least 100. Which ...

This is getting big enough that I might consider splitting it into book chapters. Page 32 here really feels like a chapter ending.

Bit of a rough conversation.
I'm still catching up to my schedule. I'll get there one way or another.

I'm getting a little better at distance model scuds! Also I'm now applying my cast body types that i decided on (20 pages in, but that's what rough pages are for). When in doubt, you can tell them apart by the antennae fan shapes.
Since I'm ridick behind on pages, I'll be releasing at least 4 more, hopefully 8 this coming weekend. Thanks for your patience 😔🙏

Hello everyone! I am like 6 pages behind on my intended weekly schedule for Terranaut, mostly because I have been struggling to find an acceptable balance between my full time job, social life, chores, artwork, and rest. There’s a holiday break coming up, so I should have slightly more contiguous free time to sort my things out and finish more comics.
To tide you over, here is some of ...

In classic me style now that I have committed to working on one short story, I am already thinking dreamily of the next one. In the vein of Terranaut and Airsled, I really want to do pre-space age stories for each alien race in Runaway to the Stars. This includes humanity's whole deal... I'm appropriating a story and characters I first developed in high school for a story tangentially ...

I've had a lot of fun thinking about the weird, visceral reality of biotech. The emotional effect of smashing your phone is way different when it's full of almost the same kind of guts as you are.
Also... whew... already 20 pages in and I've barely finished setup? I'm definitely gonna try to cut the chaff out during editing, but either way it's looking like this one is gonna be significan...

My excuse for Chkbrr's eyes having no shine on them in the last three panels is that they are covered in a thin layer of dust. Also, ah.. the irony of Rzzt-tt complaining about Chkbrr throwing a tantrum while they're being too petty over a perceived lack of response to actually check the room...
Since I didn't post last weekend, I'll be posting another 4 comics later tonight. First ...

Blue dragons like to nest in and around rocks, and unlike gold dragons they prefer to live with only their partner and young kids. However, they are not usually territorial about local feeding grounds and will frequently hunt and scavenge in multi-family groups. In times of scarcity, they will defend reliable foraging areas from other dragons.
Of the four species of dragons, blue dragons ...

Sketches of what the nest (or lair, as gnomes will call it) of gold dragons looks like. Most gold dragons live in the dry and nearly rainless savanna, but flocks dwelling in wetter regions will weave a roof for their nest. The walls of the nest bowl are also frequently decorated not only with drying meat, but anything shiny/colorful they've stripped of kills or traded with gnomes.

Some basic sketches for the train in Terranaut. I still need to figure out what its literal guts look like... the twin engines have tanks of sugar fuel that are used to power the muscles of the pneumatic piston system. The oxygen intake at the nose lets air in to pass over a huge respiratory surface, then exit through the gill-like outtake holes on the body.
Also here's a rejected a...

Unlike Airsled, this time I'm going to be wrestling with bleed cropping and full colors. I was planning to color these rough pages too, but then I realized this would just result in me procrastinating on the one part of the project that's supposed to be fast and forgiving. Coloring this damn thing once will be more than enough for me!

The third volume of Almost Real: A Speculative Biology Zine is in the works (currently in the contracting phase) and this time around my job will be the cover artwork, a collaborative entry, probably the editor portraits, and of course, editing. The theme is aquatics!

More on interspecies relationships. The opposite of dating an avian, partnerships with ferrets are partnerships with a GROUP of ferrets, and require constant engagement on a daily basis. It's extremely emotionally and physically taxing for even the most social person, and humans who marry into ferret groups often have to go on leaves once a month to rest from the constant interaction.
Avi...

More interspecies relationship doodles, this time with Shyam and Talita.
Talita is a centaur but has spent most of her life around humans. She has a very weird relationship to her body, sexuality, and gender-- she genuinely isn't sure how to slot into a relationship, much less an interspecies one with someone an tenth her size.

I was thinking about interspecies relationships, and also how avians can see in UV, and also that many people have freckles that are only visible in UV (because they absorb it-- they're visible by being less UV colored than the rest of your face, if that makes any sense).
Avian and human relationships, if ...

Sorry it’s a photo, I’ve been too busy farming and churning out comic pages to get to my scanner— in my very limited free time I have been hashing out the two-million-year-abandoned human permaculture project that my gnomes live on.
