Horror Movie Maps #26: Trick r Treat (27x35)

A fun anthology film with some classic horror antagonists and a new one. Here we have a few houses on Halloween night and an abandoned rock quarry where some tragedy occurred years ago.  Ghosts and will-o-wisps could make fitting creatures, or serial killers and other Halloween fare.

Horror Movie Maps #25: The Ruins (30x53)

"The Ruins," like a lot of good horror, creates a really unsettling situation out of a fairly commonplace experience. Also, like a lot of good RPGs,  the "bad guys" seem to have entirely reasonable motivations. Here we have an ancient pyramid with an abandoned encampment surrounded by dense jungle. It could be used as the entrance to a mummy's lair or a survival/defense scenario fighting o...

Horror Movie Maps #24: The Witch (40x50)

It really warms my cockles whenever there's magic in horror movies, even if it's understated and not really the point of the movie. This map includes a cursed farmhouse and a witch's hovel that could be used as the lair for a hag or some other evil spellcaster.

Here's our 3rd set of clean maps based on horror movies. Heading into the final week of our daily map challenge for October and its been super fun drawing inspiration from horror movies. Your support is really appreciated and has definitely kept us motivated!

Contains:

* The Devil's Rock (30x30)

* House of 1000 Corpses (40x64)

* Cemetery Man (40x40)...

Horror Movie Maps #23: The Descent (40x40)

Combining spelunking with creepy blind cave monsters was a pretty fun idea and kinda perfect for D&D. This map has a bunch of tight spaces that PCs will have to squeeze through and a huge chasm to cross before getting to the creature's lair. Could also load up with traps and cave-ins, as well as burrowing creatures, or small creatures that can maneuver through the tighter tunnels with ease....

Horror Movie Maps #22: Night of the Living Dead (50x40)

George Romero's classic changed the game when it comes to zombie movies and how we think of zombies in general. Here we have a cemetery recently vacated graves and a nearby farmhouse with way too many windows. The basement and second story are on the right. Black and white included for that original 1968 feel.

Horror Movie Maps #21: Dagon (40x40)

Dagon is a pretty fun entry in the Cthulhu mythos that definitely does not take itself too seriously. Here we have a small fishing village that takes after the town of Imboca, with a small hotel and an ancient temple. Could be a nice place for the PCs to find some rest and trade, or fight fish-people cultists.

Horror Movie Maps #20: The Platform (30x30)

The premise of "The Platform" is simple but it's executed entertainingly with a bit of social commentary tacked on.  This map draws from the central conceit and places the party in a prison cell with a pit in the middle. The sustenance providing platform makes its way downwards until it reaches the final room before the pit itself. On the way down the party can fight with aggressive prison...

Horror Movie Maps #19: Cemetery Man (40x40)

I really like the idea of a cemetery groundskeeper who's tasked with the responsibility of taking out freshly spawned zombies (or returners as they're called here). The movie gets pretty bonkers towards the end but it does have some interesting shots and the music is Carpenter-esque. Here we have a large graveyard with a groundskeeper's house and an ossuary. Should be good for a zombie siege, b...

Horror Movie Maps #18: House of 1000 Corpses (40x64)

Was a huge fan of White Zombie way back in the day and when I heard Rob Zombie was making a horror flick I was all in. There's not quite 1,000 corpses on this map, but there are a bunch. I could see this being used as a haunted house or the lair of a madman (or a family of mad-folks).

Horror Movie Maps #17: The Devil's Rock (30x30)

A low-budget horror movie from New Zealand that extends the idea of Nazi's delving into supernatural powers such as in "Indiana Jones" or "Hellboy." The effects are really great and it's definitely worth checking out if an occult World War 2 horror film sounds even mildly interesting. Here we have a fortified bunker on a beach that could be used in a small scale siege scenario or a semi-abandon...

* As Above So Below (73x34)

Horror Movie Maps #16: Train to Busan (50x50)

When I first saw "Train to Busan" I had no idea it was a zombie movie, or even a horror movie for that matter. Boy was I pleasantly surprised when the undead showed up.  This map has a zombie infested train and a few nearby houses that might (or might not) provide safety for the adventurers.

Horror Movie Maps #15: Ghostbusters (30x40)

Might be a bit of a stretch to call Ghostbusters horror, but that librarian at the beginning did legit terrify me as a kid. Anyhow here's a temple atop a tower inspired by Gozer's Temple. It could be used as a portal for interdimensional travel or a gateway for otherworldly invaders.

Horror Movie Maps #14: Interview with the Vampire (28x42)

One of my favorite elements of "Interview" is the concept of a vampire society with it's own sub-cultures as we see with Armand's Parisian troupe/coven. Here we have a rendition of their playhouse with attached vampire lair. The map could also be used as a legitimate theater or maybe the stronghold of a bard with a penchant for the undead.

Horror Movie Maps #13: In the Mouth of Madness (32x51)

The third movie in Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy is a Lovecraftian horror that feels somewhat satirical at times with it's Stephen King side-references.  One of the most striking images in "In the Mouth of Madness" is the Black Church in a massive open field in Hobb's End. Here we have a rendition of the church that could be used as a Paladin or Cleric lair (or anybody that has religious ...

Horror Movie Maps #12: As Above So Below (73x34)

This found footage movie features a party of adventurers crawling through a dungeon to in search of an alchemist's stone. It's practically a DnD movie in a modern setting. Here's a map of some catacombs similar to the Paris Catacombs featured in the movie. It could be the lair of lich and its undead hordes, or maybe a kobold stronghold with plenty of traps to deal with curious interlopers.

Horror Movie Maps #11: Color Out of Space (40x40)

I really dug the Color Out of Space: it had great practical effects, some interesting performances, a vibrant color palette, and some really amazing creature designs that are reminiscent of The Thing. Here's a rendition of a farmhouse and stables inspired by the movie. It could be used for a forest or feywild encounter with some star spawn, mind flayers or other eldritch horrors.

Horror Movie Maps #10: The Void (30x90)

The Void has some awesome creature designs (done with practical effects no less), cultists and some fun cosmic horror elements. It's sort of a mashup of Hellraiser, Rosemary's Baby and Frankenstein. This map has the opening murder with a trail to the hospital that eventually leads to a portal to another dimension. I could see using a bunch of undead, fiends and cultists trying to complete some ...

Includes:

* The Winchester (30x22)

* Midsommar (40x30)

* The Ring (30x36)

Horror Movie Maps #9: The Mist (36x38)

The Mist has an awesome premise with some really dope monster designs and one of the most brutal endings I've ever seen. The world of the mist creatures is such fertile ground for adventure. Here's a rendition of the grocery store and pharmacy for our heroes to defend from the mist and the beasts within.

Horror Movie Maps #8: Tremors (75x41)

Graboids! Here's a loose interpretation of the town of Perfection as depicted in the b-movie classic Tremors. Could just be a town for the players to pass through or a central hub for adventure in a desert locale. Purple worms, bulette, umber hulks or other burrowing creatures could work as stand-ins for graboids.

Horror Movie Maps #7: The Evil Dead (30x30)

The Sam Raimi horror classic. A peaceful resting spot for adventurers, as long as they stay out of the cellar.

Horror Movie Maps #6: Annihilation (35x35)

I'm not 100% sure I understood what was going on in Annihilation but the soundtrack and visuals were amazing, and it definitely had some tense moments. Here's a little map of the boathouse that could probably be used for a Feywild encounter or an encampment if the party is feeling brave. There's plenty of water so a giant crocodile or other water-based monster certainly wouldn't be out of order...

Horror Movie Maps #5: Bone Tomahawk (30x48)

Bone Tomahawk is one of those movies I went into knowing almost nothing about, other than Kurt Russel was starring in it and that it was clearly a western. Maybe expecting something a little like Tombstone I was pretty surprised by the opening scene and everything that followed. It's also a movie with one of "those" scenes. You know, the kind you'll never forget (for better or worse). So here's...

Horror Movie Maps #4: Lord of Illusions (30x30)

A horror movie with wizards? Yes, please. This map is based on Nix's (The Pilgrim) Compound with some references to the movie and some additional flair. It could be used as the lair of a world-ending cult, a haunted estate or the home base for an evil campaign.

Horror Movie Maps #3: The Ring (30x36)

The Ring was one of those movies that had a scene that really seared itself into my memory. It's one of the scariest horror films I've ever watched. It's hard to believe it was rated PG-13. So here's a rendition of a couple of the significant locations from the movie mashed together: Samara's room in the stable and the cabin. I could see this being used as a creepy rest spot for the PCs as they...

Horror Movie Maps Day #2: Midsommar (40x30)

Continuing a month of maps influenced by horror movies we have the home of the cult from Midsommar. Have your party join in the festivities or slaughter cultists relentlessly (or both!).  Runes from the movie are hidden all over the map; most are pretty easy to spot but a few are a little trickier to see. Maybe grant your PCs boons if they can find them all!

Horror Movie Maps Day #1: The Winchester (30x22)

Every year during October I like to watch a horror movie each day. This year, time permitting, I'll be making a map influenced by that movie. For the first, I watched one of my all time favorite horror comedies, "Shaun of the Dead," and thought that the Winchester pub would make a fun battle map so here's an old-timey re-imagining of the ultimate zombie holdout.
