Personal Archive (I wrote this 6 years ago)

After the General Meeting (pictured above) the rest of my first day in Elan blended into a gray haze. I guess that is how your mind reacts when put into an environment so foreign and strange. It just seemed to shut-off, as if its only goal was the self-preservation of my sanity. I never thought a place like The Elan School was even possible.

AMA Question: what was your reaction to the outside world after you got out?

It sucked, really. Everyone, even me, thought that the second I left, it was going to be like heaven. But it was honestly more like that scene in The Shawshank Redemption where the older man doesn't actually want to leave the prison by the end, and when he gets out the world really scares him. AMA Question: I remember reading that residents were discouraged from behaving in a truly friendly and therapeutic manner toward one another, so "talking down" a violent/deranged kid must have been a delicate balancing act.

AMA Question: Were corner kids allowed to bathe regularly and change into clean clothes, or were they just left there to rot like carcasses?

Corner kids were allowed to shower, but that was more for the sake of everyone else. Actually, after being in the corner for months and months, they didn't want to shower or brush their teeth anymore because they were becoming more animalistic in nature.

AMA Question: What red flags, as someone who was on the inside, would you recommend that outsiders be on the lookout for to avoid programs like this?

I think it all has to be about communication. If a program wants to put restraints on any form of communication: letters, phone calls, visits, etc... then it is probably a bad place.

Parents should be able to visit their children any time they want. People should be able to make phone calls without going through a switch-board or having another person listening. The US mail is supposed to...

Comic Redesign

Hello my Patrons. For one, thank you all so much. I have made it this far thanks to your love and support. I truly appreciate your belief in my project.
