Ashley's kicks and punches are so powerful that melee weapons simply crumble when she hits things with them.
The batons have a certain random durability when you pick them up after they get dropped by enemies. So will lots of other weapons in the future that Ashley will use. Weapons will be repairable and upgradeable.
