I’ll deep clean the entire room around this but leave this sacred chaos just as is.

This piece is leading me into the depths of madness lol

Might have to get other pieces going and keep this one in rotation.

Still listening to the biography of Beethoven. He’s writing the 9th symphony. I’m listening to the first movement, which I’ve always loved because of its doomy atmosphere.

More about lines- Intro to drawing bad art 1 part II

I felt like the line exercise segment in the pareidolia and lines video left something to be desired. so I made this shorter precise video about the importance of lines, the characteristics of lines, how to study line in artwork you like, how line communicates emotion in a drawing, and how to practice your lines.

Intro to Bad Drawing 1: Pareidolia and Lines

This is the first lesson in my fundamentals of drawing course I'm doing. I'm calling it Bad Drawing because you have to make a lot of bad art before you start making good art. In this first video I talk about pareidolia, what it is, how it informs my art, but also how I think it is at the core of our visual imaginations in general. We will also get into the importance of line. And some exercise...

I like to open one of my art books and leave it open on my bed all day

today it was this guy. What a legend. His drawings inspire a sense of potential. Every drawing is a wild ride.

Reflections

Most of the collaboration with kids drawings I've been posting publicly were made with one kid in particular. There's been some changes going on lately that have made me think about that. Here's my thoughts.

Added more color. I know I'm getting close when I start going fast.

I get in to serious flow state and everything just seems to be automatic. I was listening to my Beethoven biography and it talks about his "raptus" which is what his friends called these trance states he would lock in to when he was creating.

I also listened a playlist from Smithsonian Folkways and my favorite songs on it were:

Sin Mas All by Suni Paz

The Dying Cowboy by...

Patreon Tier painting full demo

This was the very first full demo I did. I did it with one camera and it made me realize how much I needed a second camera to have on my pallet. I didn't even think I would post it because of that. But I'm really happy with the painting I did on this and the way I basically just talked about everything I'm thinking about while making a painting. I'm already getting better at recording these, sa...

Full length watercolor demo take 2

After my botched first attempt at a multi-camera real time watercolor demo I decided that I should just make another one. "A mistake is just an opportunity to do something different" -Ralph Steadman. In that spirit, I decided to use a different color gamut, and cover some other aspects of the materials. I also realized that I should probably flip over the pallet camera so it isn't upside down ð...

First real time demo of how I paint in watercolor

I'm really proud of this debut full length start to finish watercolor tutorial. I cover:

-intro and materials walk through (the pallet, brushes, paper and paints)

-The loose head shape

-Defining the head shape/ developing the character

-Details

-Origin of the sweeties

despite the lo-fi work around to the technical camera trouble (it adds character) ther...

On the Easel Tonight

added more definition to the torso area. Was listening to a Biography about Beethoven. His brother died, he became his nephew's guardian, He's a horrible guardian and he's started writing his late music. He is basically completely deaf and sick all the time.

Listening to Piano Sonata no. 31 in A flat major now.

Recorded three full length watercolor demos this weekend

The first one was kind of a misfire. I recorded another full length demo about a week ago of me painting one of the Patreon tier icons. I realized that I needed a second camera to film the pallet, because a lot of what I'm talking about doesn't make sense if you can't see that. So I used an older camera to film the pallet on my next one. Long story short, it didn't work out. The footage wouldn'...

One of these paintings will be the Instagram Subscription incentive. and then there will be an extra. That extra will be dealt with. and by that I mean given away. But how? we'll find out.

Soprano Sweetie Watercolor and gouache

4x9 inches. kind of a weird size for a painting for me. That came out of a miscalculation of pixels to inches for the tier designs. A happy accident. First Soprano to sustain one year of membership at that level will call this sweetie their own!
