I just posted this on my subscriber Instagram and it was removed. Demontized until May 21st. Fuck Instagram. I think I can safely say that on this platform. and I need to say it somewhere because its been happening a lot and its really annoying. Fuck Instagram. Sorry for this rant, but:

Beethoven-Art Life & Lives

Today I'm trying out a new idea. I listen to a lot of audio books while I paint and commute to work. a lot of biographies of artists, books about creativity, and other stuff that I think is useful for artists to pay attention to. I feel like I am getting a lot of insight and wisdom from listening to these books, but after I'm done listening to an audio book I feel like the information just leav...

Snail painting

I’ve been thinking about snails recently. there’s been a lot more moisture in the air recently so there’s more snails around. I spent the better part of Easter looking at Jan van Huysum paintings and I love the way he painted little snails in his flower still-lifes. It’s like an elegant suggestion that these arrangements of flowers are beautiful obejcts in our eyes but nature has other ...

Don’t be precious

Reminder to myself: Don’t be precious with your art

I’ve been working on this painting for months.

Getting all the little details right

But it was driving me crazy.

Couldn’t figure out why.

It was because of all the details. Distracting from the bigger shapes.

I needed to go back to the bigger shapes.

that meant destroying details

Being prec...

study to painting

Doing that perspective lesson really opened something in my mind. I did 3 of those blobby drawings from boxes and decided to do a painting from them. This is 8x10 inches on a gesso panel. I might do more paintings this way.

Perspective Drawing Demo

Hello sweeties. in this demo I talk about the difficulties I've had with learning perspective, how I went about getting better at it, some tricks about seeing in perspective and then I work on one of these surreal blobby drawings constructed from simple boxes. These perspective lessons have been great for my art. I feel like I'm not merely showing how perspective works to a class but its actual...

Perspective: how I struggled with it, how I learned it, how I use it

In this demo I talk about my struggle with learning perspective. Why I think artists are turned off by studying perspective. And how perspective has become a go to of mine when facing creative block. I also do a drawing of organic surrealist shapes from boxes to demonstrate how a little perspective can help with drawing surreal or abstract art.

Perspective: Lesson -intro to drawing bad art

This one took a little longer for me. But I'm really happy with it.

Check out the links in the description of the YouTube video for further resources on perspective.

I highly recommend getting Perspective Made Easy by Ernest Norling

Enjoy! have fun.

NightCrawler 2019 collab. with Atom St. George

Finished in 2019 but started way back in 2017. I was taking a painting class at Otis College in Los Angeles. I was inspired to find interesting surfaces to paint on other than the standard sizes and materials at the art stores. I came across this craigslist listing that said "free shipping pallets. just take them. don't ask questions" so I pulled up to this pile of shipping crates outside of a ...

Almost there

Started adding color, went back in with the black and white, Reworked all the clouds, changed the light source, then went back in with the color. Should be done in another session or two. Still collecting ideas for names.

Been listening to a biography about Caravaggio. I don’t think he would like my work. And I think he’d hate my process for sure.
