New single + finally some innovation in a keyboard instrument!

Just dropped a new single and I've been surprised by the positive response, I guess it's quite different from what I've been releasing the last few years! "Cloud Collapse" is available to download here or you can find it on all the 2023-04-08 18:15:32 +0000 UTC View Post

SONIC BOOM is here!

Welcome to our new show, Sonic Boom. Every other Saturday, Rob and I will be doing something musical, probably challenging, and almost definitely ridiculous. Hope you enjoy. 😊

(And watch to the end to see who we got to be our house band!!)

Spacetime BTS and the return of Weird Gear!

Very pleased to show the Soma Pulsar-23 in a custom Andrew Huang edition! In this case, custom means I chose the colors and the knobs, and contributed to the design of an exclusive hat that comes with the unit, but otherwise it's the same weird drum machine. :) Watch here.

I had hoped to get the track in this video...

I'm so stoked to share that the new episode of 4 Producers 1 Sample features Son Lux (recently nominated for two Oscars for their work on Everything Everywhere All At Once), AJR, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, and a sample from Hiatus Kaiyote. Universal Audio sponsored this episode and connected me ...

Best plugins of 2022 & a weird guitar pedal technique

So I got this pedal with motorized faders a while ago and always wanted to run the sound of its faders through itself... Here's that experiment!

Patreon exclusive track "Slow Effect"

Someone just let me know they couldn't find the Dust & Dewdrops b-side I had talked about before and I think I may have forgotten to post it! Here it is, a chill little beat with a super weird melody that I still dig but didn't feel right for the album. Enjoy!

GHOST is a new FX unit I helped design!

Hello!

I've been collaborating with Endorphin.es on some modules, and the first of them is now available! GHOST is a stereo multi-effect that packs a lot into a small space while being quick to learn and easy to use. Here's my video on it!

And here are some stores around the world that are stocking it if you're in...

Writing 100 riffs in a day with Rob Scallon

Here's early access to a new video! Rob and I had a great time doing this challenge, a little something to tide you over as we RECORD THE NEW FIRST OF OCTOBER ALBUM TODAY but of course it won't all be edited and ready for YouTube for a couple weeks.

We actually did want to put all the riffs on streaming platforms but none of the upload services will allow a 100-track album, so it's just g...

Running Up That Hill (Rework + Production Breakdown)

Here's a little music video plus a look at some production and arrangement techniques!

I've been a huge Kate Bush fan for ages, and started experimenting with this song in 2009 (!) so thank you Stranger Things for giving me the push to finally finish it.

Overall I'm actually glad it happened this way because there are a number of ideas I ended up with that really elevated the ...

5 weird music production tricks :)

Just collecting a few production ideas I've been using recently that I don't see many or any people talking about! Hope you dig.

Attached is a better mixed and longer (but still short) version of the patch I made at the end. I'm thinking of doing kind of a "punk rock" IDM album. Short tracks, fast and loose methodology in the studio, but taking the form of complex beep boop music. :D

How to make money composing for ads, and also a new Moog!

Granular synth fun, with exclusive sample pack!

Hello! Got an early video for you here.

Don't do this if you want a successful music career

Hey there!

Wow, I sketched out a bunch of tracks really fast for this video. Well, the final song was half-written some time ago. None of them are at all finished so I don't want to share downloads yet... I was trying to just be like MULTI-GENRE EXPLOSION to tie into one of my main points in this video - about how important focus is to success, but also about how much you choose to engage...

Making music with baby & balloons

Hello hello!

I obviously knew as soon as I heard Evelyn making any sounds that I would have to sample her, so I've been recording her pretty regularly, but I did not expect it to turn into this good of a beat. Really had a lot of fun with this one. And then also sampled some balloons because we had a lot of them at her 1-year birthday party.

Blue Dawn + bonus track

Hey hi! Many folks asked me to release this sleep/relaxation patch on streaming services, and I've done that now!

This release is a slightly different version - it was taken from the same patch recording, but I had to shorten it due to file size restrictions (boo) but it's also an improved mix.

Here's 1.5 minutes I cut from the "5 ways to start a song" video because it was getting long. This is another chunk of Twitter-generated melody that I developed and set to different chords, if you're interested in seeing another example of that process. Enjoy!
