Just recently (yes, recently, I'm slow) project profit & loss statements for my various side projects (i.e. not my main series) and realised it might be useful for others to use. So, I'm attaching it here.
This is a rather simple document.
First few columns are pure revenue (I broke it into ebook, paperback and audio, you could get even more granular and add ebook Amazon o...

Yeah, this is a little early so I'll leave it running till the first week of April. Lots of options. If it's a series option, it means we're looking at however many chapters I finish.
Got another suggestion? Vote for Whatever you want and comment below. I might end up adding said suggestion to it.
On another note - the first 5? That's my brain, running overtime. Picking ...

(this was meant to be a Wednesday post, but it blew up on Reddit so it's now public earlier)
Recently, I decided to get a trademark for the System Apocalypse® due to a growing concern about its use. Now, before I discuss my personal reasons on this, I figured I should clarify a few things (including why it's a trademark and not a copyright).
As always, note I'm not a lawye...

So normally, I give out ACX Audiobook Codes to those $20 and up. However, since this was a joint project, I couldn't give these out until now.
Unfortunately, the pickup of the audiobook hasn't gone as well as we'd hope, so now we're stuck with some bad reviews and a LOT of codes. So...

Alright, I thought I'd write this. This is a kind of checklist of tropes and things that people find appealing as well as what I enjoy reading.
Numbers go Up. Whee!
Ever played a game and wanted to try different builds? See what happens with the way the various character skills / equipment / etc change? Well, LitRPG kind of taps into that itch. A ch...

Catie here!
As most of you know we’re currently running a Kickstarter Campaign to turn all seven of the System Apocalypse comics, based on Life in the North, into a full trade paperback novel. I’ve been working as Tao’s assistant for a few months now, and planning this campaign was one of my first major projects.
When Tao asked me to start figuring out the logistics of the cam...

Hi guys;
No March short story poll. I have an idea for a (very) silly short that will fit in with the April 1 theme (sort of, not really) that was triggered by a comment in the LitRPG group.
It's based in the System Apocalypse and will feature our favorite angry man. So no voting.
I will (if you guys are okay with it), release it early on April 1, 2021.
Otherwise, ...

Okay, please note this is very much personal. Everyone has a different workflow for this, but this is how I do things mostly.
Start: Begin Writing.
Most novels take 2-3 months to finish for me, including first and second draft. So this timeline is based off that.
If this is an existing series, at this point I'd already be contacting the narrators (if I'm not ...

Been a while since I did a writing update.
Let's see...
Writing and Life
So, January was a great month. Using my new word tracker, I did a total of 71160 words. That includes a bunch on the short story, some business posts and the various major projects (see below).
February has not gone as well. I've been fighting off a cold/flu for the last ...

So, audiobooks and Audible have been having a big kerfluffle over Audiblegate, their return policy and the like. I'm not getting into that, you can do your own research.
Instead, I wanted to talk about Going Wide.
Very simply, going wide is removing yourself from exclusivity from ACX and promoting yourself on other platforms.
Why Exclusive on ACX

One of the biggest discussions I see in the author realm is about Write to Market and the argument for writing for yourself. One of the things I think people misunderstand is that when Write to Market is being discussed in comparison to the two is how an individual can, without meaning to, write to market.
Writing for Yourself and the Market
Let's take two circles, ...

One of the most common things I've noticed people talk about is how you should be reading reviews, taking criticism from your readers and well, just being cognizant of what they want.
However, I've publicly stated before that I don't think the vast majority of opinions of the general public on craft are useful. The reason for that comes down to a few things:
- Opin...

Since someone asked and I figured I should get around to doing this, let's talk audiobooks.
Btw -there's not much to discuss in paperbacks - I have sold a few copies here and there, and it's been enough profit wise to cover the cost of creating the hard copy editions thus far. Which is great, since I can then rake in profits in the future as they (slowly) sell. But it's like... 9 copies. ...
