Alchemists Shop - Animated Image
I still have a few common shop interiors that come up quite often in a game, and one of those, that my party at least has shopped at a lot is the Alchemists. In my world at least, Alchemists hold a fairly high rank in society, so their stores are usually in the nicer parts of town and deal with the upper echelon of society. I'm sure there are many alchemists that get by in a little shack in the...

I wanted to fill a few gaps in the wilderness travel scenes and someone the other day suggested a desert dunes location, so just goes to show if you suggest a location, I'll probably do it :) I had to finish this quick one up before the end of the month, but next month I'm going to hop back into a few interior scenes, as they always take a lot longer to complete.

After the Castle Gates image last month I wanted to make a smaller town gates that could be used for similar encounters but in a different setting. I think these encounters come up so often in D&D games that there's plenty of opportunities to use these scenes. And if you're running an adventure where the gates of t...

I get lots of good feedback from the wilderness travel locations that I have made in the past and people asking for more of a variety of them. I was watching some an old western movie the other week and was inspired by the landscapes in the film, so I felt like I had to paint something like that.
I don't know if your setting has guns in it, but I think mine might when I find the opp...

This week is a really fun location that I got to make in collaboration with Abyssal Brews. We brainstormed a location and magic item that could be found. We settled on a volcano interior theme, and they came up with this Barbarian helmet magic item that inspired this location that I thought would be designed as a "gaun...

I have been a huge fan of Matt Colville for a long time and I loved Matts new video about prepping an adventure using inspiration from maps, and it's basically what I already do with my game except I use my scenes instead of ma...

I have played through a few scenes over the years where the party has to talk their way into a castle of through city gates, and so I thought it would make sense to paint a scene here. Bored guards can always be looking to take advantage of a weak looking party member or two, and so it's usually a fun time for the party to show that they're not the characters to mess with.
I think I will ...

We're back this week with a very fun and unique collaboration with Daniel from Daniels Maps on Patreon. He approached me with the idea for a map/scene collab last month, and this location is very unlike anything I've done in the past, so I had to say yes. I hope you like this one and definitely check out Daniels page. 2023-05-17 15:30:01 +0000 UTC View Post
Spring time is here in the Northern Hemisphere and I have been visiting a few gardens, and it has been on my list for a while now to paint some royal gardens for parties that are lucky enough to have a patron of such high stature. I have seen some D&D map makers that I follow draw some garden maps in the past so, after visiting some outstanding gardens and getting some inspiration it was ab...

I recently was suggested to paint Reghed Glacier from Rime of the Frostmaiden, but I realized its just a wall of ice, and it wasn't obvious how to make that interesting. But that leads into the Caves of Hunger, which inspired this location. I tend to run my dungeon delves very narratively nowadays, instead of using a big dungeon crawl map, so I can use an image like this as they traverse and ex...
