Thief Revised
Added 2025-06-12 13:00:12 +0000 UTCToday I have a PDF of the revised thief character class. This revision incorporates the resolve mechanic and adds a few more schemes.
A few things to point out:
The use of resolve hopefully points to how I see the mechanic playing out. It is required for mechanics that you could not reuse until you finished a long rest. For things like schemes, it hopefully encourages creative play by letting you use more than one in a round. That fits my philosophy of keeping characters fun and giving them plenty of options outside of using resolve.
Notice the reference to exploration actions. When the exploration rules are ready, you'll see that they use a different set of actions than encounters.
Otherwise, I continue to plug away at the game. I need to revise the cleric to use resolve, and the magic-user work continues. I'm happy that a cleric, thanks to their mix of attacks and cantrips, doesn't need resolve to feel like a functional character with plenty of options. Cracking the magic-user is forcing the character a bit further away from its roots. We'll see where it ends up!
Comments
I think what separates Hide in Shadows from Stealth and Spot Threats from Perception is that they don't take up actions since they are in the Intentions phase and spending Resolve let's you spam multiple Schemes if you can afford them in a single round.
