DITW 12-10: Sweet Compliance

Josh’s heart pounded so hard he swore all his rivets would shake loose. The damn four-chamber thing shook his vision, and a steady boom-boom-boom thudded in his ears.

He’d flirted, teased, fantasized about this dreadful moment, and now it would happen before him. The closer it came to being, the more inexorable the moment felt. Like this thing had always been out of his hands; that he’d been misled, cajoled, brow-beaten, gaslit into this moment’s manifestation, and all at his own request.

But there was a beautiful, gold-edged frame around the picture; a submission-wrestled truth glimmering in the fog.

He could picture the scenario like the analogy of a pool hall trick shot from a rookie player: much glory could be memorialized if the right ball fell into a pocket, but if it failed, one could shrug off the endeavor as producing the anticipated result, setting the world and the player back in their rightful place. If he struggled and endured, he could be king. If he crashed and burned, well, what did you expect?

For now, he enjoyed the change in Kimmy’s demeanor. The trepidation, the unsureness, the guilt... And hopefully at some point, an expression of boundless shame would appear. For now, he savored Kimmy’s apprehension. A stark look in comparison to the haughty dominance that had swelled since the summer, and had come to define his wife’s character.

Kimmy didn’t know how to behave with Devlin. Didn’t know how familiar she was with him—at least from her watching husband’s perspective. So her movements were stiff, and her eyes on Devlin flickered between commanding and baleful. Seeing Kimmy this way drove down the pedal on his lust’s accelerator. As Devlin’s hands undid her shirt buttons, each passing second, Josh’s heart beat harder and harder. The thudding in his ears roared and whooshed.

He watched the smooth plain of Kimmy’s collar revealed. The room’s light shimmered on her flawless skin. Her nipples had hardened at this terrible proposition, and he loved it. She could fight this arrangement all she wanted, but he knew she’d been here before and her body betrayed her right now. Her terrific mind could turn him into knots, make him believe anything. But her body responded the only way it knew how. Her body wasn’t deceitful, wasn’t duplicitous.

Devlin turned her on. Devlin made her wet. He was sure of it. If he slipped his hands in her panties, they would come out with a gloss.

A tragic inertia sealed him to where he stood; the enormity of his lust for such depravity materialized before him. He was the spark that began this fire. If he were another man, this situation would not play out before his eyes and his throbbing cock.

Devlin’s movements came in short travels, tentative, as if awaiting an objection, his smile creeping wider as no admonishment came and his sensual act with Kimmy increased. Still, no one stopped him. This was Josh’s own doing. An inevitable destination.

As if now resigned, expecting no protestation, Devlin continued. He pushed Kimmy’s shirt open wider, exposing one breast in her bra, slipping a thumb under the strap and pulling it taut. The tautness highlighted the hardness of her nipple showing through the fabric. Kimmy showed defiance, mouth closed, chin up and jutting, allowing this other man to handle her sexually. Then Devlin’s thumb descended along the strap toward the cup, and when it met the point where cup and strap connected, he pushed out and down, revealing Kimmy’s brown nipple. It was thick and rubbery and aroused. He let the bra strap go, and the cup cinched under her small bosom, pushing the flesh upward. Devlin’s thumb caressed Kimmy’s nipple, and Kimmy’s eyes narrowed, that steely look she showed beginning to wane.

But now her eyes had averted, steering away from Devlin and looking his way. Looking at her husband. Her husband standing watching. Her husband standing and watching something so awful, and yet this strange man in the seven-thousand dollar suit his wife bought him believed the sin would be the penitence. He wanted her freed from what she’d done. It would free him, wouldn’t it? Kimmy would have to endure. He would have to endure. They both would, together—and then hope once it was all over, there was enough remaining to sweep up and rebuild.

He also raised his chin—and he figured the gesture could be as paper thin as hers. Kimmy hated losing control. Hated the way her body betrayed her. Her defiance would soon melt away—her mask as resilient as if made of sugar.

Trouble swirled in her eyes and for a moment, and he could picture himself calling the whole thing off. That one moment of Kimmy’s unsureness would halt these proceedings. He didn’t want to punish Kimmy, not the real Kimmy, not the one he knew and loved before the summer, he wanted to punish the other Kimmy, the one she’d created out of thin air. Maybe the one she’d created as some sort of histamine response to her own infidelity, the one who would take advantage of her husband’s erotic drive, hijack it to explain away all the bad she’d done. Neither of those women hated him. They both loved him. But each did it in an entirely different way.

Kimmy bit her lips, her brows tenting to the angle of worry. She lay a hand over Devlin’s, pausing his nipple teasing for a moment, saying now, “You want this, Josh, don’t you?”

Her sibilant voice, though whisper quiet, surprised him, shaking him from the reverie he’d sunk into like warm swamp water. And again, the urge to cancel the plan. To take her home and...

And do what?

Stick his head in the sand and pretend she’d always been faithful? Pretend that the guy who’d tormented his youth hadn’t shamed him, hadn’t got the better of him yet again? That his wife and his bully hadn’t worked in tandem to demean him more than anyone could ever do? That she’d helped his nemesis into an unfathomable victory, an impossibly complex and truly thorough humiliation?

He approached them, head cocked, calm expression, one meant to convey to Kimmy the reminder that they’d discussed this. There was no time for deeper vacillation. He said, “Do it or don’t.”

Devlin interjected, talking to Kimmy with his thumb pad rubbing her aroused and bursting nipple. “Give him what he wants, Kimmy. How many times does he have to ask you?”

Kimmy gave Devlin a fleeting glance, then returned her unsure gaze to Josh. He loved the conundrum she’d found herself in. Kimmy had woke this morning and could never have expected what he’d ask of her by lunch time. He showed her a weak but encouraging smile.

The words she wanted from him he would not utter before Devlin.

The moment bloomed large and expectant, the only motion was Devlin’s big thumb rolling Kimmy’s hardened nipple in circles, torturing that swollen part of her.

Josh closed his eyes, then opened them again, filling with the wisdom of Solomon. A test. A test would decide. Kimmy would abide by the test.

He said to her, “Are you wet? Are you wet for him?”

Kimmy scowled a look of indignity, disbelieving her loving and timid husband would speak such crassness. But her expression eased with the steady time-ticking realization of her place in this room, her lace in the marriage, her trail of indiscretion. As the furrows in her brow eased away, Devlin chuckled, staring at the side of Kimmy’s face. “That’s a great question. That is a great question, Josh.”

He steadied his amused gaze on Kimmy still and she rotated her face to regard him with a thinly veiled sneer.

Devlin said, “Are you wet, Miss Chang?”

Kimmy scoffed with disgust and rolled her eyes.

Devlin looked at Josh now. “Why don’t you come closer and find out, Josh? Put your hand down Kimmy’s panties.”

Josh stood immobile, frozen from action by racing thoughts. Bad thoughts, dirty thoughts. Lusty ones. They occluded the shame, though, and for that he welcomed them. Kimmy was dirty. Nasty. A sexual being in the way he could have never comprehended before this summer. She was wet. He knew it without even checking. Devlin made her pussy weep with urgent need. His cock throbbed between his legs. He stepped closer, and Devlin nodded encouragement.

“That’s it, Josh. Come closer, come and check for yourself. You wouldn’t take my word for it, anyway.”

Kimmy scoffed again, and Devlin added, “Or hers.” Kimmy shook her head with grave disdain.

Josh stepped closer, right next to them, Kimmy’s narrowed eyes on him, watching him with a comforting look of concern. She was breathing heavy. Her eyes were glossy. Her nipple looked rubbed raw; rosy and plump.

Then Devlin’s thumb-rubbing hand let her abused nipple alone, drifting lower to Kimmy’s waist. He unbuttoned the top of her high-waisted pants. “Check her for me, Josh.”

With his eyes on Kimmy’s face, he touched the waist of her pants, traced sensitive finger pads across the expensive fabric and located the tiny zipper pull, dragging it downward until her fly was open.

Kimmy seduced him with her eyes. Each passing second, his wife got closer to submitting to his insane request. Each passing moment, she gave herself greater permission to show her husband the nasty things she’d done behind his back.

Since he took too long, Devlin added commentary. “She wears satin panties with her suits because she likes the way the fabric slips against the wool. Isn’t that right, Kimmy?”

The intimate knowledge, and its uncomfortable implication, distracted her, but she managed to keep looking at Josh, even though the corners of her mouth tugged downward in anger.

Josh untucked her crisp white dress shirt and slipped his hand underneath. At the warmth of her smooth flat tummy, he had a surge of love for her; with the familiar touch came so many fond feelings for the woman he married. And sure enough, when he touched her panties, he found that Devlin was correct: they were satin. The acknowledgment passed in their gazes; yes, Devlin knew what panties she wore with what clothing.

His hand was shaking by the time he’d pulled forward the waist of her panties. A tidal wave of hot desire washed over him, and instead of watching her with Devlin right now, he wanted to get her on the bed, pull the pants and panties off and bury his face in her hot muff, run his tongue through her until she choked off his air supply with a trembling leg lock. Resolve seized his muscles, and he shoved his hand down the front of his wife’s panties. All Devlin had done was rub her nipple, but his wife was teeming with sexual lubrication. His fingers squelched through her slick and swollen folds. She closed her eyes and moaned a sound of sexual regret.

As he pleasured her wet pussy with his fingers, he asked her, “Aren’t you ashamed?”

Her eyes opened and scared away any confidence he’d felt when they were closed. His fingers stopped teasing.

Those hot black eyes of Kimmy’s drove into him and scoured his shadowy thoughts, striking like a feathered raptor through a mouse nest. His thoughts scattered. And he knew what she would say before she said it. Knew that her razor-like beak had snatched one particular furry little morsel out of the scattering mischief.

Her eyes narrowed, and she said in return, “Aren’t you? Aren’t you ashamed? Another man gets your wife wet, and your wife should be ashamed?”

Devlin chuckled, a long, low rumble. “That’s it, Kimmy, let him have his humiliation. Don’t hold it back from him.”

Josh’s hand slipped away from her pussy, withdrew from the warmth of her panties, and he stepped back. His heart pounded hard. But he loved it.

He said, “I never should have let you work for him.”

Kimmy reached between his legs and grabbed a rough handful of his genitals, injuring his tender balls for a brief second before finding the distinct shape of his iron shaft and squeezing it. She said to him now, “You’re not ashamed?”

This is future Bill your theory is looking a damn sight more sound right now!

Bill F Protagoras

Change "am too humble to state it" to "modesty forbids" and nothing more need be said... on my part at any rate... and Oblige... I remain as ever your humble servant

Bill F Protagoras

Devlin also has some glib patter and, an at times, disarming vulgarity of expression

Bill F Protagoras

Do you know I actually originally wrote "and maybe gender fluid matters"... imagine my horror when I was checking what I'd written...I thought people will think... that sarcastic bastard is making offensive remarks disguised as wordplay. Fortunately, some time over the last couple of weeks I had checked what ... meant and that saved my bacon from being a pig.

Bill F Protagoras

Yes, those heretics knew how to rock it, Eco is great and I've read Name of the Rose in Spanish and English going on for 10 times, but the real treasure trove is The Pursuit of the Millennium by Norman Cohn.

Bill F Protagoras

I love this, ha ha. And the Monkees too. And that representation of my writing sends me; I'd love to think it was astute but am too humble to state it.

KT Morrison

Never read it! I'll have to check it out.

KT Morrison

Actually that one was too esoteric to notice (Paradise Lost): Those thousand decencies that daily flow From all her words and actions mixed with love And sweet compliance, which declare unfeigned Union of mind or in us both one soul

KT Morrison

I'm just curious to know what you mean by allowing Josh and Devlin to put her family on the line. It could be interpreted in many ways especially the word family. The situation is very fluid at this point, and usually things require a context anyway. Due to the opaqueness of what Kimmy's intentions and desires may be, for example. And which Kimmy wouldn't proceed without a back up plan? I think I may have some idea, but so does everybody else... there's quite a spectrum... I actually quite liked your idyllic scene... although, as experience teaches, a human proposes and probability disposes... Or the author does... And KT has a habit, which I believe to be frustratingly realistic, of having characters thinking one way then acting in another... I think that's when she does her best work... or it does her...

Bill F Protagoras

I am really just curious why Kimmy would allow Josh and Devlin put her family on the line?

HTO

We still don’t know the actual paternity of the child. From reading all the books it could easily be Devlin’s but KT likes to change things up! This could a “Broken Blossoms” situation such as Nia kids actually being her husband’s and not her lovers or it could a “Learning Lessons” where the opposite happened! I still think it’s Devlins but KT has been making Kimmy seem like it’s Josh’s. So we will see!

Andrew Mellein

Re fetus... My computer corrected me... or should I say the ghost of Dr Johnson in my machine did! Interestingly, in castellano if you call someone a feto, you are calling them ugly.

Bill F Protagoras

de nada...

Bill F Protagoras

Loved that book

Tim ziegler

Devlin would just hire a live in nanny. Problem solved. I really expect Kimmy will very quickly regard the whole Hyun episode as a mistake and try to pretend it never happened. In fact I suspect that it will be Josh finding out about Hyun that will cause Josh to finally leave her.

CSH

Also, while she was thinking that, or so soon as she had thought that, the frisky little devil (not as tall or fit as me ole mucker Dev) was shooting his load in her hot moist gob, being able to give both a physical and mental estimation of yer wee man's marital todger!

Bill F Protagoras

A cunning stunt, I'd say.

Donkatsu

Just imagine how envious her sister would be!

HTO

Well like you said, Kimmy is observant and honest. Maybe just some mouth stuff with Devlin….one fetus ( foetus? Really?) later…..

CSH

There's a lot of talk about the actual size of Josh's penis, which gives one pause for thought... Anyway this is what I go with... "And forget that Double-A stuff, anyway. Josh had a normal penis. Not every man had what Devlin had. Josh was as large as a guy should be. It’s what made Devlin special. He wouldn’t be special if Josh had a giant dick too. She could do this maybe. Work for Devlin, make lots of money, travel . . . mess around. But just a little. Not all the way. Hands and mouth, maybe." Straight from the whore's mouth... so later she talks to her boss about cucky's tiny ding dong, apart from the obvious, her boss is paying her well to be his submissive slut! That's probably in the spank bank of many a repressed petty authoritarian. Is there really such a thing as a good boss? Some are better than others, a few much better, but when push comes to shove they're still ya fuckin boss... although one of my oldest tenets is that all generalizations are invidious... but sometimes they're useful, damn it! I can't help wonder what she meant by "Devlin was more than a giant dick—and that was okay too"... maybe she just meant he was also a load of bollocks too! A veritable cornucopia of genitalia! No wonder no-one knows what he's really like...

Bill F Protagoras

Foetus... what foetus?

Bill F Protagoras

One theory about how everything will "end", supported by Kimmy's own mullings before she took her hop, skip and jump into Stone cold employment, before she literally (trope alert) sold all her holes and adjacent naughty bits to a slime-ball for cash, is that Devlin will get bored with her, and their sweetmeat Josh, and does whatever he has done with his other discards...of course, his legal cock-sleeve might still have something up hers... Riiiiiiight up it! Obviously, KT has her schedule, and the mob's appetite for melodrama is fast becoming a craving!

Bill F Protagoras

Yes, there's a whole rich vein of Devlin's vast erotic deviant adventures hinted at (as early as Demons) when he's not doing his latest tinkering with the Waters... although I still think that there's a special something nestling in the coal black lump that serves him for a heart... an eighth passenger with acid for blood with some concealed alien motivation, or, and I think this more likely, some banal or even infantile spur that drives his damned obsession with this particular couple... for never was there such woe as that of Kimmy and her... Yeah, I remember that comment and KT seldom throws something away willy-nilly! Not one to litter the hall of Pandemonium... Unlike Milton...

Bill F Protagoras

Fixed in the MS now, thank you!

KT Morrison

Huhwhoops, yeah, that's not right!

KT Morrison

heh heh, cunny

KT Morrison

I have been a little troubled about Kimmy’s seeming disinterest in her pregnancy and the late entry of Hyun into the story. Consider the downside risks to Kimmy…divorce and single motherhood. She would not proceed without a backup plan. But not Devlin. Can you imagine Devlin bringing the baby to Kimmy at 3 AM after having changed a blowout Diaper? Hyun however fits perfectly in that role. How about Kimmy and Hyun as the primary couple; Josh and Meyer with shared custody giving Kimmy her professional and sexual freedom?

HTO

🎯🤣🤣

Andrew Mellein

My theory: I think Josh was always the ultimate prize. He wanted Josh in the mix and got tired of her dragging her feet. Also, go back and read Duplicitous Devils where Devlin has a throwaway remark saying that Johnnie Rumble “has had his cock in a cage”. Basically, I think Devlin enjoys cuckold relationships. He’s done this before and I believe he always wanted both Kimmy and Josh.

CSH

Do you really think preconsciousness will catch on? I'm doing that thing with my hands like Korean girls do when they want to frame how cute they are... very difficult to do while typing... but I think I pull it off...

Bill F Protagoras

Come on! Kimmy's strong she keeps on telling us so!

Bill F Protagoras

Devlin's remorseless sexual pursuit of Kimmy needs to be viewed in light of Devlin's homoerotic obsession... for instance was his crossing Kimmy's line drawn in the sand deliberate self-sabotage?

Bill F Protagoras

That would be a sight to see. The opposite I mean and well goose and gander, or whatever. Real people like Devlin are indeed the worst. As far as the character, beyond the pseudo intellectual philosophizing we haven’t really learned much about Devlin.

CSH

I was worried he might commit murder... worried for the sake of him and his fulsome voluptuary accomplice in lusty endeavours, it goes without saying! (as some genius once remarked)

Bill F Protagoras

You're wrong, I am a fan of Devlin... KT has made a rich entitled character appear an embodiment of what many people believe is bad seem real without the charisma and the Romantic attractive presence many authors have often imbued such characters with before. If KT can convince me it's believable, I've no problem with Josh sucking Devlin's cock. I would probably enjoy it more if it was the other way round, not because of my inner Miss Prism, cos she sailed a long time ago, but it would be a real achievement to do it convincingly... and it would really throw the cat amongst the pigeons, true Mardi Gras, genuine Saturnalia! And I have a wicked streak that I like to indulge once in a while. It's real people like Devlin I'm not a fan of...

Bill F Protagoras

The ending was funny when he confronted his wife and her lover. Ripping the door off the hinges🤣🤣🤣

Andrew Mellein

And yet she emerged from you as well. lol. Let’s go with your version instead of unconscious.

CSH

CSH - Agreed on him not walking away. Even if he wanted to, I don't think Kimmy would let him. She'd find some way to trap him into seeing this through. Whether through dominance or coercion or guilt, it would hurt her too much to allow him to leave. If he gets skittish, she'll find a way to lock him into this. I think the more likely scenario would be afterwards. Josh is unlikely to want to show that kind of weakness in front of Devlin, but I could easily see him replaying it over and over in his mind after the fact until he's dead inside. Even though Josh is driving this, or was until the last couple of paragraphs, ultimately the outcome here resides squarely with Kimmy. What she does, or doesn't do, will make or break Josh and their relationship. To be fair to her, I think she's seen that, which is why she changed tactics and started avoiding Devlin. I think this scenario that Josh setup will be his undoing because Kimmy won't have the fortitude, or desire, to hold back once things really get going. And Josh of the moment will take it because he has to, Josh of the future may be something else entirely. Especially if/when he finds out about the pregnancy and Hyun.

L_S87

Poor sweet Charlie….. KT gave a sneak peak of a possible new novel a while back. Page back through, or do a search.

CSH

I get the sense you are not a fan of Devlin. Lol. Devlin and Josh have a strange homoerotic fascination with with each other. I think that is undeniably there in the text. Yes of course Josh truly despises Devlin. But would he blow him if Kimmy tells him to? Time will tell.

CSH

You are awful... but thanks for reminding me of naughty Jonny, and Charlie is my darling, about whom I will not hear an ill word spoke! Iron bars don't make a cage, but apparently silicon (is it ?) works agonic wonders... Recommended by all the best landlords, as is Charlie!

Bill F Protagoras

Maybe he should upset Kimmy then... but not with Devlin in the mix, that might mean true humiliation to Josh...

Bill F Protagoras

Enjoy, Andrew. It's the stereotypical jock has small penis... just being ironic! I don't know if it's a generation thing, but when you said you would check it out, I fleetingly had an image of you going to a library.

Bill F Protagoras

I may be understating it but Devlin is an offense to human decency, whereas Kimmy's relation with Hyun, nascent though it may be, demonstrates that she is not totally lacking in taste and discrimination. There's hope for her yet. It's not that Kimmy is fucking a big cock that bothers me, it's what's attached to it!

Bill F Protagoras

Well, KT this is just like the old days when readers begged Dickens not to kill off Little Nell... I know you didn't hear it, but I just heaved a sigh!

Bill F Protagoras

Yup! It's great! And so funny... though the violence adds a nice pinch of jeopardy! Good one, Mike!

Bill F Protagoras

Isn't the humiliation part of Josh's relationship with 'Kimmy'... Devlin irks him and he feels ashamed that he allows a thing as despicable as Devlin to affect him... now, if he should discover she is apparently playing the humiliation game for Devlin when they are alone... as we all know, that will matter! I'm rooting for Josh not the beastly rooter! He can get rooted for all I care... just as long as he doesn't enjoy it. If not... it won't be the first time KT makes me cry... and that one ended on a cheery note!

Bill F Protagoras

Is Josh happy to show Devlin he gets off on it though?... I get the feeling his distaste for Devlin is unequivocal... maybe this is also about Josh showing Devlin that as far as he is concerned Devlin is just a dildo! A prop! I wish him luck... but it's really all about Kimmy. It's about the courtly love aspect of hotwife... Josh is trying to transform Kimmy from a cheating cuckolder, perhaps only in his own mind, into something they can both feel unashamed of. Who cares how a loathsome dildo feels? Perhaps bringing up shame was the wisdom of Solomon... KT? I'm not assuming he will be successful. I may be wrong... but it seems like early days yet... Does this scene really have to be make or break?

Bill F Protagoras

Can you imagine how often my daughter says... " Dad, stop talking bollocks!"

Bill F Protagoras

Or as my half-formed imaginings might put it... a spontaneous surprise shamanistic voyage into dreamtime manifesting all what you said for the reasons you gave... except the sceptic in me is leery of the psychological use of 'unconscious'... I prefer the "Australian" aborigine concept. Naturally, I have no problem with the state in which Philip Marlowe and his mates get when they get clocked on the noggin' by some ruffian being called unconscious. The other is more like a sort of glimpse of how we become aware of reality. A preconsciousness if you must, her doktor! For example, if a person and two companions had taken LSD and were walking between two parts of an idyllic university campus at some time in the past and crossed paths with themselves going in the opposite direction involved in the very same whacky conversation, would that event be real, would that memory be real for all three people, I would unequivocally say yes... and I am sure such a person would in the future be willing to describe it as "emerging wholly formed from his (begrudgingly) unconscious"... and this means we can say that what happened in that tent did matter and was 'real.' To all intents and purposes. If we feel like it. Although perhaps it would be unrepeatable... in a laboratory.

Bill F Protagoras

Yes, I suspect the same. I just also think that, when it exceeds what he anticipated, Josh will react not by walking away but by getting further into it which will then spur Kimmy into being even rougher on him.

CSH

I think Josh hopes this will "get it out of his system". At least in so far as the unhealthy, by his own admission, obsession he has with the awful things Kimmy did behind his back and the equally awful person she did them with. Kimmy already pointed out they're never going back to "normal". But I think that's kind of what Josh was hoping for, or some reasonable facsimile that doesn't end with Kimmy returning to her prior ways with Devlin. Which to Kimmy's credit, she has stated, and mostly adhered to. Not that what she's doing with Hyun is any better. But Josh doesn't know about that. Ultimately, what Josh wants out of this is probably going to differ from what he actually gets. My opinion it will end up being too much. There's a small sweet spot of "this is good and we both like it, let's stop here" for how this scene to plays out and Devlin and Kimmy are going to blow by that mark at warp speed.

L_S87

I have not! Need to check that one out! I like stories where the guy cant take it! (LOL) Although I do love all of KT novels and short stories. I like stories where the wife cheats and the husband freaks out or is all angsty about the situation.

Andrew Mellein

I believe it's was her Going 2 far...where there was a husband who didn't like the wife going with other guys. He would beat them up. He was a a big guy with a small package. Don't know if you read that. Interesting story!

Mike Monroe

I wonder if KT has written any boyfriend/husband characters that has not gotten off on their wives/girlfriends with other men? Because Josh hates the idea of Kimmy fucking Devlin but deep down he’s humiliated and turned on by it! Most of KT husbands/ boyfriends characters ( as far as I know) for the most part love the idea of watching their wives and girlfriends with other men. I wonder if she’d ever entertain writing a character that was not turned on by having their wife or girlfriend cheating and would be upset at finding out! Josh is the closest character to that idea but even he gets turned on by watching Kimmy with Devlin. I’m not knocking her work I love everything she writes and will continue to write. I just added my two cents!

Andrew Mellein

I personally hope she helps him explore the depth of his humiliation fetish. Lock his little thing up and take him to her father’s house to celebrate the approaching birth of Devlin’s baby.

CSH

I think the issue of Josh’s strength of character is fascinating. Old Josh was passive and secretly developed a fetish to adjust to his passivity and perceived inferiority in his manly goods. Admittedly with some help from his wife. New Josh knows what he wants and goes and gets it. “Fuck my whore of a wife for me you piece of shit!” might sum up the current scene. Perhaps what Josh is doing is applying his old coping strategy, taking his weakness and fetishizing it, as a means of controlling it. He secretly had developed a fetish about his dick size. Now he has fetishized his wife’s unfaithfulness. In my opinion, new Josh is not really weak, in fact he is trying to take control of the situation by objectifying and demeaning Kimmy and Devlin, at least in his own mind. Unfortunately, like other coping strategies it also serves to enable the abusive behavior that spawned it. The more he shows Devlin and Kimmy he gets off on it, the more dignity they will take from him, then he will get off on that so they take a bit more and so on. Perhaps there’s a happy medium there somewhere ……or perhaps not. Perhaps it’s a race to the bottom.

CSH

Yeah I like that interpretation of it. Josh having an intuitive dream of his future life, emerging wholly formed from his unconscious. Nurtured perhaps by his suppressed sense of inferiority and triggered by the blacked out drunken encounter with Kimmy, Devlin, and Amy.

CSH

Josh should not upset Kimmy because she is also in a slippery slope. Somewhere there is a strap-on, in case she wants to make him drain the chalice to the dregs, so to say.

Rocambole50

Whilst thinking about why sex has become equated with woman corrupting the innocent male, and trying not to bust a gut, I suddenly thought... why does the clearly guilty criminal always claim the devil made them do it... Wouldn't it be more convincing if they said God, who is the Creator, is Almighty, All knowing All forgiving, made them do it? A good lawyer could probably cop an insanity plea either way? And a really good lawyer could probably get together a sizeable class action for Divine design faults. Just a mind game, of course... I, like The Monkees, Am a Believer! Anyone who is offended by my musings must bear in mind that someone who is allegedly named KT Morrison made me think about sex and God by writing uncannily well about men and women and maybe matters gender fluid and having a character named Devlin in her work allegedly...

Bill F Protagoras

For me the tent incident has always seemed like Bunyan's lying down in a den (a prison in reality) and "dreaming" Pilgrim's Progress, or Dante's entering the wood, they are liminal experiences that lead to transcendent experiences that defy the abnegation of the real... which is a round about fancy way of agreeing that it doesn't matter.

Bill F Protagoras

Yes, Kimmy’s primary fault seems to be her unwillingness to acknowledge her true desires and motivations. She lies not only to Josh and Devlin but also, and often, to herself.

CSH

Milton's daughter's were an adjunct to his blindness and therefore to be blunt his human resource, they were taught skills he could no longer practise... his picture of Eve as Adam's humble helpmeet was hardly something I was sympathetic to. I agree with Blake... Milton's Satan receives more respect than Adam or Eve. Eve is a more formed character than in the Bible... but she displays those qualities that a puritan male of his time would 'find' in a woman. That's how I remember it... If you are interested in Milton, I would recommend Christopher Hill's Milton and the English Revolution.

Bill F Protagoras

Josh in my opinion is weak...IRL he is to allow this in knowing the truth and allowing this to continue and do nothing. I understand this is fantasy and a great story and we are here for it. However this ends it will a wild ride. I would hope for some type of strength from Josh ..maybe a little payback against Devlin especially. Kimmy I can take or leave In my opinion the worst female lead from any of KT stories and I thought Maggie and Jess were bad ... especially Jess. I am buckling up for the bumpy ride till the end.

Mike Monroe

I don't know... maybe there is some awful knowledge Kimmy is yet to obtain but not knowing exactly what it might be I can't guess how far she will go... Kimmy in some ways is much more enigmatic than Josh at this point, is she too distraught to know herself even. I would like to think... I know what either of them will do... but I don't! Why should any woman take on blame in situations not of their devising? I'd sooner beard the almighty invisible demiurge, and ask if he's still beating his cisisbeo!

Bill F Protagoras

There is no doubt Kimmy will partake of the forbidden fruit in front of Josh but will she be made to take the blame as Eve was? This Kimmy seems more like Milton”s version of Eve than the bibles

Tracey52

0h, nice change of pace from classical reference to irony...Sweet Compliance.

Bill F Protagoras

Only saw the Ken Russell version.

CSH

If, as you believe, Josh is weak, surely any rage would seem like the impotence of a childish tantrum. Are we to see him as irredeemably foolish as well as obtuse? Also my guess is Kimmy is way too smart for Devlin... she already seems to think she has a match in Josh... it's the size of his dick that she has reservations about, not his intellect. Her 'smarts' have allowed her to put herself in the clutches of a man who she knew to be an unrepentant bully and a brute. Of course, one of his first moves after the clever ploy of shoving his finger's in her quim, was to flatter her smarts in comparison to the high school girls who she no longer deigns to consider her peers. She may be a good lawyer, but she reminds me of... physician heal thyself (Counsellor counsel yourself?). And Devlin's confidence is that of a callow amateur conman.

Bill F Protagoras

I understood it as an ironic rebuke... what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander...* maybe even a cheeky riposte. In any case a personal interchange... * I just remembered it... in the context the original is more fitting than the modern version. Kimmy... ever the dish!

Bill F Protagoras

Yeah CSH... Kimmy is teasing... your paraphrase was what I understood.

Bill F Protagoras

I certainly think a lot of squirming will be done... and a more direct, though inaccurate version of the Nietzsche quote would be... be cautious when you struggle with Worms (Orm in germanic) take care in case you end up a Worm... Bram Stoker's "The Lair of the White Worm" was published posthumously... it was not about lawns...

Bill F Protagoras

I don’t necessarily think Josh is weak. My take on Josh is that he is addicted to Kimmy’s and Devlin’s humiliation of him. Rationally, he knows the dangers of swimming with these sharks but he desperately wants the thrill. One can rationally choose such risks and take precautions but still die as a consequence. I think he is in process of transition as a character but into what exactly, we don’t know yet. Josh, the strong, knowledgeable, master of his own submissive urges is a possibility, yes, but then, so is Josh, the hopelessly addicted, broken, and humiliated cuckold. Obviously none of us, other than KT know and I’m okay with that. I agree completely about the morality play or people getting what they deserve. They never do. But endings should be satisfying within the context of the story - not by tying up all the loose ends into an artificial package but at least an ending that addresses the central themes of the work. So, for example, here, I don’t think it actually matters whether Devlin had that conversation in the tent with Josh, or whether Josh dreamed it. Obviously though, Josh and Kimmy altering their relationship, and even their personalities, to deal with their sexual transformations is crucial. All that said, I would admittedly take great joy in seeing Evil Kimmy shine in all her glory, and make Josh regret ever thinking he could control her, lol.

CSH

I loved Josh's two Kimmys theory... he, lucifer-like, manages to see her badness as good for him, making a silk purse out of Devlin's sow's ear! The whole intricate episode is so impressive... and, I insist, subtle. I keep on worrying that people will think that I am suggesting that the magnitude of her boss's manhood has some how made Kimmy's sweet cunny hideously deformed... not me, unless it's the work of a deviant unconscious... or a Freudian id, not mine, Freud's. As a Humesian I find both ideas extremely tendentious!

Bill F Protagoras

They don't have to be happy about it...

Bill F Protagoras

Readers shouldn't get what they want, or they think they deserve... like Oliver Twist in the workhouse (a real hell) they should get what they are given...

Bill F Protagoras

A worthy unmelodramatic analysis... my only disagreement is as usual the assertiveness about Josh... Josh has always thought this stuff, but has always been plagued (should I say pandemicked?) by rational doubt which has much wider consequences than legal reasonable doubt. A lot of people still interpret this as weakness... believing that when faced with extreme acts of "betrayal" Josh will be unable to cope... I rather think that when he sees his fever dreams incarnate the fact that Kimmy's body cannot lie (when she is 'lying' with Devlin) will perversely reassure him. After all self torture is a curative element for his double-dealing allergy. As occurred in Cherry Blossoms witnessing enactment of Josh's fears and desires may have a cathartic effect which will effect and impact on the riddle of what is happening before our eyes, and his... I don't dare, or care to guess what our kindly author has in mind... but I'm sure it won't be what Miss Prism and many pedestrian writers think fiction is... I don't see anything neo-victorian on the horizon, more a double entendre more like a complex more dirty 'veni vidi vici'... we are not nearing the end... we're just crossing the Rubicon... Kimmy has a lean and hungry look... I like that!

Bill F Protagoras

CSH - I think you're right, but that was my point. The way it was phrased leads to confusion because the wording leads one way, but the implications leads in another. The way you phrased it would have made more sense, imo. Though would have probably been too on the nose for Kimmy to say in front of Devlin. She might be irked with Josh for what he said, but I'm thinking there's still a part of her that doesn't want to go to far. The reality is, she's only trying to point out the unfairness and hypocrisy of Josh ridiculing her for being turned on when he is too. Though I feel like Josh's statement has more to do with the past, and Kimmy is making it about the present, because she doesn't have much defense for her past actions, but she can defend her current reactions given Josh is having the same ones as she is.

This encounter is a bit awkwardly laid out but from a certain POV that makes it all the more realistic. How could this not be awkward? The beginning of the scene reflects the awkwardness of the characters, and like them, looks to have found its rhythm near the end. The short back and forth between Josh and Kimmy at the end of the scene perfectly encapsulates the sexual transformation of the characters. Shy Kimmy who would have died of embarrassment is now a strong, sexually confident Kimmy. Timid old Josh who would not have had the courage to even think this stuff, let alone do it, now giving it his all, pretending to “ be the man”, be in control, then seeing the fog of that illusory control all burned away by the scorching sun of Kimmy’s aggressive sexuality - and absolutely being thrilled by it. Let’s see where this takes us. I’m hoping Kimmy goes full on Evil Kimmy now. Some of the changes that happened earlier start to gel. Kimmy has begun to settle into her new role. Perhaps after crushing Josh’s soul she will bake him some pastries. Josh is still unclear as a character. Who is he now? But that is natural as Josh’s mental transformation is necessarily somewhat more complex and difficult than Kimmy’s of course. We need to wonder how Josh will react to all this. Well done on that point. Who’s in control of this encounter? Josh thinks he is. Kimmy knows she is not, that’s the thrill for Josh. But, wait, maybe she is, or at least she’s not the bottom, and Josh likes that, too. Everyone is doing what Devlin tells them to do, especially Josh. Despite all the fighting and power struggles, might Devlin simply define their roles? The dynamic here is treacherous and the struggle between the characters threatens to drive them to be more extreme but at the same time the real sense of danger gives the scene its edge. It’s not a nice fun game between friends, the stakes are real. The pain is real, the thrill is real. Well done so far. Don’t be shy KT, show us what you’ve got……

CSH

Kimmy’s “another man“ jibe is not contradictory, it’s just a bit mysteriously clipped. It might more pointedly be rephrased as “Aren’t you ashamed that it takes another man to get your wife wet?” In my opinion there’s nothing out of character or contradictory in it. And it need not be so bluntly stated. Kimmy and Josh understand each other. It’s for us to puzzle it out.

CSH

I think Kimmy is going to go too far, and Josh won’t be able to ever look at her the same way again. I understand that she believes Josh needs and likes being demeaned and humiliated, but there’s a difference between humiliation in a parking lot or their bedroom, and humiliation in front of Devlin. I agree that she’s going to crush his heart, and destroy everything she claims she needs and loves so much.

Kat

A heart attack…Lol. You and me both. What a cliffhanger.

Kat

Agreed. Josh is incredibly obtuse and so weak. I’d like to see him assert himself and bring some rage but not sure he’s capable. These two are a mismatch anyway. Kimmy is too smart. She wants to be challenged by a confident guy. I hope the grand finale features our villains at their worst. Bring it KT!

Wess

Penitenziagite!

Bill F Protagoras

Kat is right. You even see it at the end of the chapter. The majority of the last few chapters and most of this one as well, Josh is the strong one. He has the upper hand. Resolute, steadfast. Knows what he wants, works to get it. Kimmy is almost timid. Right up until Josh pushes a little too hard, says something demeaning to her, in front of Devlin. Because Devlin goaded Josh into it. And Kimmy can't have that. Vulnerable for Josh, when they are alone? Sure. In front of Devlin? Never. So she turns the tables immediately. Quite literally grabs Josh by the balls (love that, KT) and asserts her authority in their relationship. Showing she IS the strong one and Josh needs to know his place. Sad thing is, she's letting her needs, her lusts, cloud her judgment. Just like she always does. This path she's choosing will allow her to flaunt her control, give Josh the show she thinks he wants, but while doing it she's going to crush his heart. The heart of their marriage, as she describes it. Even if they make it through this, there's so many other sins that this won't attune for. And after crushing his heart, he'll have no more faith, no more perseverance, to deal with the additional immoral acts and the forgiveness he would have to find to overcome them. Josh needs to find a way to enjoy what little of this there is to enjoy, because I think he's going to find the rest of this road rocky. There are no good intentions paving this pathway to hell.

L_S87

And Devlin's witty contribution is “Check her for me, Josh.” And I know she wears satin undies... schoolyard level shit...

Bill F Protagoras

For example... Josh asks Kimmy if she's ashamed... then she does a bit of magic lasso lie detecting... pointing out that HE isn't... quite rightly implying, so why should she be? A respectful and respectable reply methinks. See geese in other posting...

Bill F Protagoras

PPS. I seriously think I am reading a different book... but who cares... the one I'm reading is as well wrought and as validating as Kimmy the kindly one's concluding words to Josh... for now...

Bill F Protagoras

PS. The sentence beginning " Trouble swirled...." looks to have one "and" too many... I would take my pick if I were not ever so 'umble... and speaking out of turn...

Bill F Protagoras

Like squeezing blood out of a stone... if not 'the' stone...

Bill F Protagoras

I prostrate myself... as you reveal once familiar characters anew,,, thus making them all things to all readers... or at least we few... we happy few...

Bill F Protagoras

Thank you... glorious shaping... when struggling against enormities that cover a multitude of sins... when the past is dug up by the nails of the dog that's friend to men (oops!) and offered to us piecemeal...

Bill F Protagoras

Agree, Kat. Kimmy is already morphing into the killer barrister, who MUST come out on the top of any engagement, verbal or physical. That is the reality of her personality and training - whatever it takes to gain the acquiescence of the "target" in this case, Josh. She will demean and humiliate Josh with Devlin's gleeful cooperation and leadership. Soon, Josh will end up as mere collateral damage on the floor of this schtupzimmer.

Donkatsu

Good luck with getting the old Kimmy back. She explicitly told him that time’s arrow goes in one direction only.

Donkatsu

This is the beginning of the end...I see this being a Maggie less friendly ending. Josh off to Rome regretting he let Devlin talk him into this. The two evil bullies going off to rule their evil empire. Maybe a twist we discover a surprise Kimmy has Josh kid instead of Devlin s. That would be twist. As much as I love it I hate it . KT as always great writing the angst ..the hate for both Kimmy and Devlin is real...for me anyway!!! This is just a car crash you can't look away from. Stupid Stupid Josh..if he knew what was happening..should have just stayed in Rome and divorced Kimmy as she deserved.

Mike Monroe

At the end of this I can see Kimmy or evil Kimmy leaving Josh for Devlin (maybe a weeklong fling) to pay him back for (supposedly) humiliating her. But then she will have to deal with Hyun, who being angered at Kimmy's betrayal will expose all her secrets to Josh.

Andrew Mellein

Yes, this when I wish I was reading a novel without stopping . I'll stick with this format because it suits KT. But these cliffhangers at pivotal important moments are giving me a heart attack (LOL) .At least a chapter today and tomorrow. I understand KT is currently writing these chapters and don't know what she completed or didn't. And i definitely want her to take her time and get the characters right. I just get anxious because we are at the good parts!

Andrew Mellein

Josh pretty much knows Kimmy cheated at this point. Any normal man would go home and chuck all Kimmy's clothes and possessions out the apartment window! But like the chapter explained Josh is a different sort all together. He likes watching Kimmy doing these degrading things. And he wants to see the actual deed done to confirm his suspicions . I wonder how this is going to be resolved i can imagine Josh being disgusted during the act, being turned on inwardly and being humiliated by Kimmy and Devlin. Eventually getting some proof but not all of Kimmy's evil adulterous ways. But her being wet helps Josh's cause!

Andrew Mellein

KT, another chapter please! 🙏🙂

Kat

I’m looking forward to what happens after this is over. What will the first moment be like with Kimmy and Josh when they are alone? I think this is going to turn into the runaway train into oblivion like you said. Devlin’s going to get what he wants. I don’t see how Josh can remain this strong, and Kimmy not turn into her nasty, awful self.

Kat

Put us in Josh’s just when required. A master as always kt.

Tracey52

I agree!

Kat

What stood out for me the most in this chapter is Josh’s attitude in his internal dialogue. Some of us have felt badly for him throughout these books, and have also been furious about how weak he has seemed. There have been so many times where he could have done something to expose Devlin and Kimmy or at let on that he knows what’s going on, at least to his wife. He’s been dishonest with Kimmy, almost as much as she has been to him. But here, in this chapter, Josh seems as in control as we’ve ever seen him. While watching this is causing him pain, it’s also providing a sense of satisfaction, too. He’s enjoying seeing Kimmy squirm. He’s not letting Devlin take him down. He shows a real sense of clarity in this passage: And do what? Stick his head in the sand and pretend she’d always been faithful? Pretend that the guy who’d tormented his youth hadn’t shamed him, hadn’t got the better of him yet again? That his wife and his bully hadn’t worked in tandem to demean him more than anyone could ever do? That she’d helped his nemesis into an unfathomable victory, an impossibly complex and truly thorough humiliation? He knows what she did. He knows what a deceitful bitch she’s been to him. He knows she’s cheated on him with the one person in world that’s hurt him so much, that he’s carried the psychic pain through this adult life. This isn’t Josh just standing there getting his shameful kicks (YET!). He’s thought this out. He really wants this to happen. He’s more than okay being there. He sees Kimmy as two different people, the one before the party at Tiffany’s, and the one after. He’s not wrong. He wants this done and over, because he thinks that will fix everything and get “his” Kimmy back. He says this: He wanted her freed from what she’d done. It would free him, wouldn’t it? Kimmy would have to endure. He would have to endure. They both would, together—and then hope once it was all over, there was enough remaining to sweep up and rebuild. It’s here where I think he’s mistaken. It’s not going to be that easy, and Kimmy shows him that at the end of the chapter where she tries to verbally humiliate him in front of Devlin. She’s not going to just “endure.” Kimmy can’t help herself. Josh says it earlier, too. Her body is going to react, she’s going to lose control. This is going to be an extremely painful revelation for Josh.

Kat

At the end of the chapter. I can see that the Evil Kimmy is starting to emerge! Josh likes it now but when the real action begins he better brace himself. He may not like what he finds!

Andrew Mellein

This appears to be going about how I think I expected. Kimmy started out timid because she doesn't want to appear eager, doesn't want to hurt Josh showing how awful she's been, so Devlin does some malicious prodding and Josh responds, then Kimmy gets angry and her dominant side peeks out. Which is exactly what Devlin wanted. Josh to say something that would tweak Kimmy, make her get her back up, stop worrying about hurting their marriage and start being nasty, awful Kimmy. The Kimmy Devlin wants and enjoys. Truthfully, the one Josh enjoys too, but only in spurts, and only when they're together. What's always eaten at him is the fact that she does all this behind his back, for herself, instead of for them. She has a chance to do it for them now, but it will be interesting to see of she can keep control of her desires enough so this doesn't become a runaway train that ends in oblivion. Because I think that's what Devlin wants. I find it weird that Josh basically internally admits that she's evil, nasty, awful, and did all these things for herself through acknowledging Devlin's knowledge of her dressing habits, yet somehow still thinks this is salvation and penitence, since this whole setup was for her to prove the exact opposite. Not sure if that was intentional to show Josh's ludicrous behavior or a storyline faux pas. Either way, its interesting to note that Josh has come to grips with the fact that Kimmy of the last few months is an evil and awful person, who he lusts after but doesn't really like. Only other thing here that confused me was Kimmy saying "Another man gets your wife wet, and your wife should be ashamed?” The obvious answer is yes, but the context of the question seems to make it a "no"? Find it a bit confusing and odd. Still, love where this is headed. Mostly because the angst and anger inside Josh is still there, he hasn't given in or given up. I think he's hoping he and Kimmy can both get something special out of this and then walk away like it never happened. Which, ironically enough, is never going to happen. I wonder when it all goes to shit? During or after?

L_S87

Hooray a new chapter!! Thanks KT!
