Overlord of Death Chapter 4 Preview

"Lord Momonga spent the night with this-this LAMPREY!?!" Albedo bellowed in outrage, eyes glowing an unholy yellow.

Shalltear put her hand over her mouth to give a lady-like chortle at her rival's expense. "It seems our Lord enjoys more refined company than a gorilla!" she taunted joyously, causing the succubus to throth at the mouth.

The other guardians sighed at the antics of the Overseer and True Vampire. "Please do not embelish your interactions with the Supreme One, Shalltear. My returning spies would have mentioned seeing something so...intimate happening on the surface," Demiurge requested civily.

"Yeah, and I'd be smelling something if you had," Aura noted with a slightly disgusted look.

Shalltear pouted. "Ruin my fun. Yes, while I did spend the night with our glourious master, it was simply enjoying each others company and idle conversation while he practiced regaining control of his powers," Shalltear answered with a shiver of delight. "While it might not be entirely proper to say, I am somewhat happy for this issue our Master faces from being in this world. I never would have known he had such a vice-like command over even greater power than I ever imagined," she noted with a giggle that she knew was entirely too silly to be proper.

"It is. Truly Amazing. To see such might. Unleash. If only partly," Cocytus agreed with deep respect.

"I must agree as well. I wonder if any of the oter Supreme Beings could overcharge their spells like that...?" Albedo wondered thoughfully.

"If it something unique to him, it is likely related to his Dark Wisdom," Sebas remarked calmly.

"Dark Wisdom? What do you mean by that, Sebas?" Shalltear inquired with a thoughtful, perhaps jealous scowl.

"I recall Lord Touch Me expressing his disbeleif to Lord Momonga about being able to remember over twice as many spells as most magic users of his level," Sebas recounted without missing a beat. "They refered to it as Lord Momonga's Dark Wisdom."

"Hm, I have heard of this, I believe. Lord Ulbert once talked about Lord Momonga learning odd new spells after expressing his annoyance over a raid that had been complicated," Demiurge recalled idly. "Even disregarding that, it would not be beyond my imagination to believe that our Master's unmatched intellect grants him an understanding on  how to blur the lines between teirs of spells. Regardless, I believe you expressed there was something of great import you divined from the Supreme One's words, Shalltear?"

Shalltear nodded, turning absolutely serious. "I have learned two very important things from our Master. One, something that we have all longed to hear," she said with a true smile and a reverant smile.

"What are you talking about, Shalltear?" Mare asked, a bit stunned by the look onthe vampire's face.

"Lord Momonga, our ever wise and compassionate Master, saw through the hearts of all of us," she said with a breath of worship, entracing the others with her tale. "He knew our fears, of losing him to our shortcomings. He had me confess it all the same. I thought I had angered him, but what he truly hated was the thought of abandoning Nazarick. He values the Great Tomb and us, his lowly servants, deeply in his heart," she explained as she paused, letting the others absorb that.

The elf twins were hugging each other with happy tears down their face. Sebas had his head bowed in reverance for the magmanity of his lord while Cocytus covered his face with one arm to hide his own shamefull tears. Albedo had fallen to her kneels, hands clasped together and hands together as if in prayer. Demiurge could only gap with a dry mouth, almost not daring to believe such a thing could be true. "Lord.....Lord Momonga truly said that, Shalltear?" Demiurge managed to ask.

Shalltear nodded in understanding, having been overwhelmed by such kindness as well. "Yes, Demiurge. He even assured me that if he ever did vanish, he would return, as there are only two reasons he would leave Nazarick for a time."

"And...." Cocytus stopped to take a deep breath to ward off sniffling. "And what. Would those be. Shalltear?"

"The first he was vague on as it would be, quote, Matters of Death," Shalltear answered. "I believe he was refering to entities that might try to contend his power over Death, as he stated these would always be temporary and normally short term annoyances more than anything."

"Plausible. Even a Supreme One must answer a pretender's claim some times," Demiurge admitted, but felt that it was something else, something...more, but he would not say such now. "And the other?"

Shalltear smirked at that. "The other relates to the second and most important thing I learned. There is but one reason, and one reason only, that our Master images he would ever consider abandoning us."

That got everyone's attention, Albedo rising. "What is it, Shalltear? What would dare force Lord Momonga to unwillingly part with us?!" Albedo demanded, practically desperate to know.

Despite thier usual antics, Shalltear just stared at Albedo coolly. "Nazarick is the second most precious thing to the Supreme One," she explained, drawing silence. "To protect the first is the only thing he would go to such extremes for, if needed. What it is, I dared not pry. But it exists."

"Something the Supreme One holds first to his heart..." Demiurge murmurd in awe and calculation. "So, if Lord Momonga ever vanishes for an extended time....."

"It is only to protect something of great import to him," Sebas finished, looking up thoughtfully. "But why has he not brought it to Nazarick?"

"The Invasion," Albedo recalled with an iron voice, causing a few to stiffen at remembering the greatest intrusion into these sacred halls. "The old world was not safe for something so precious, and he needs to ensure this world is not just the same before considering such a thing."

"But...what could Momonga want to protect so much?" Mare asked, summarizing the thoughts of them all.
