I remember stuff like the Wonder Years used to be a bit like you describe, humour with an overlying moral compass, and Scrubs was the same, and some of the teen dramas with a hint of humour were like free therapy sessions e.g. My So-Called Life, we gobbled it all up over here in the UK, we couldn't get enough of it! ...but we always thought the thoughtful segments were just pure irony and hilariously funny, as we're not huge fans watering down our humour with emotions!🤣
