Loosely based on Robinson's life in London in the late 1960s, the plot follows two unemployed actors, Withnail and "I" (portrayed by Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann, respectively) who share a flat in Camden Town in 1969. Needing a holiday, they obtain the key to a country cottage in the Lake District belonging to Withnail's eccentric uncle Monty and drive there. The weekend holiday proves less recuperative than they expected.

The dialogue is brilliant and it's something quoted a lot among my friends. Mainly Withnail, Danny and Monty get quoted! But even serious things like 'even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day' or 'his mechanisms gone' I use those quotes all the time. On first viewing Brad your probably trying to take in things like what Monty is saying like 'We live in a realm of rain where royalty comes in gangs'- it's just Monty spouting pretentious gibberish! But when you know that, you can relax and it just becomes really funny. I'd say watch it in a year, get yourselves a Camberwell Carrot and because you will know the story you can just enjoy the lines and the chaos and I'm sure you will find it funnier!

The reaction was good, Brad. Looked like it tickled Lucy at times a bit more, the cheeky lung off screen worked - looked eager to get her wellies on and sort that chicken. I never really thought that much about it apart from it was the ending of 60's and the morning after of the 70's then my head hurts...drink!
