Don't know if you're big readers, but Michael Palin's diaries give some very interesting insight to do with Monty Python and related works. They come in 3 volumes: which begin during the early day's of Python and end when he's just beginning his Travel doc's. That's where I remembered the story about the hotel manager😀btw, you must watch A Fish Called Wanda with Palin, Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Kline. I doubt you'll regret it😉

2024-04-05 22:36:37 +0000 UTCThis might have been mentioned before: Basil is actually based on a manager of a hotel in Torquay, that the Python's stayed at when they were on the road. He placed Eric Idle's suitcase, which contained a ticking alarm clock, behind a wall in the garden in the fear it contained a bomb. He also denounced Minneapolis-born Monty Python group member Terry Gilliam's table manners as "Too American". Everybody except Cleese left, who stayed behind to study him. Then a few years he created Fawlty Towers!
