I'll leave some notes as I watch this - It's pronounced Ah-Jah. The Japanese A always makes the sound ah. - AJPW and AJW are entirely separate promotions that had no affiliation whatsoever. AJW actually came first, being founded in 1968 predating both AJPW, being founded in 1972 after Baba left the JWA, and New Japan which was also founded in 72. - Joshi wrestlers are taught to be super vocal. So you watch any match and they're gonna be screaming almost the entire time. - Aja has some insane arm injuries/moments from this to Kaoru jamming a broken table piece into her arm that left permanent scars that are still visible today. Aja did some psychotic shit. - This match came at the end of a kind of faction warfare type of era for AJW. Everyone always had a fuckton of seconds, so that was who was brawling. Condor Saito, Bison Kimura, a very young Kyoko Inoue, and Madusa (Alundra Blayze) were the most prominent there. - The AJW Ring was as hard as concrete, so bumping on them sucked so much. Any time Bull does the leg drop she got real fucked up. - AJW had some weird weapons, but the scissors were super duper prominent of the 80s. - This is definitely a weird jumping off point, there's so much context to this match that's lost by going in blind. But there's a ton of incredible stuff in the 90s for AJW, and I hope you keep watching.

The one in the white shirt on the outside was Alundra Blayze

You should also go out of your way to watch Aja's match on Raw vs Chaparita Asahi. Aja pulls out the package piledriver and hits probably her best uraken ever during the match. She was so beast that Vince got scared she'd overshadow the men, never brought her back, and basically dissolved the women's division because of it. Check it out, it's only like 5 minutes long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_Xqdl3ARi0&ab_channel=WWEVault Oh and also watch this video essay on Ajas goat case by Joseph Montecillo that he released just this week. https://youtu.be/7Bqc2ze4Vnk?si=Dl3kwIal3enJt3qC

Gonna need you to lock in for Dream Slam for one of your event watch alongs, Dante. Arguably the greatest professional wrestling card ever. Banger after banger after banger. Good introduction to most of the 90s joshi stars. And it's on YouTube, in incredible quality, with English subs 🙏 https://youtu.be/J_1reyfGeg4?si=q6rb0IZljBIQ0Oe4

18:36. Pretty sure that was Madusa. She's always hated Nakanos guts lol. Whether this was a lumberjack or stables no clue!

Kong would appear in the 2nd ever women's survivor series match. Her backhand is her signature that could knock most out. Even though her team captain was the champ at the time, Kong was the star being the sole survivor but never receiving a title shot from Madusa who appears here. Gotta love 95 heh
