WATCH ALONG: Tetsuya Naito vs Kazuchika Okada (Wrestle Kingdom 14)

Come watch Tetsuya Naito vs Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 14 with me!

Comments

on the okada vs randy dropkick, to me the biggest diff is that the best part of randy's is how fluid it is and the best part of okada's is how pinpont it is. randy's feels like he just naturally does it like that, okada's like he workshopped it over and over to perfect it

Also the most important part of this was missed. The roll call. I won't say anymore just in case, but the postmatch was a big deal.

This is great match. And a perfect culmination for that golden age of New Japan. There's a really good video you should watch about Naitos backstory. You can find it here: https://share.google/fatQXwuz97hHwLifQ Also, while this is probably their best match together, they have a fantastic match back in 2012 soon after Okada came back from excursion. Okada was very much playing the heel in that one and that was Naito at his most babyface, pre-ingobernable. Would high recommend it, it's from the 40th anniversary show. Probably the other match you were talking about on their cagematch. - So Ibushi won G1 in 2019. WK 14 was the first to go 2 nights (which I've always thought is a mistake, one event one night far superior). Ibushi vs Okada was on day 1 as was Jay White vs Naito for the IC belt. Day 2 was the champion vs champion winner take all match. - The whisper in the wind is the flying spinning kick/senton from the turnbuckles. The move you're talking about is the Hardyac Arrest. - The choke from Naito is a cravate. Chris Hero (Kassius Ohno in NXT) was a guy who used it a ton, incorporating it into suplexes, cutters, and throws. - If your cousin played in the top league in Japan he probably pitched in this stadium. - In Japan titles can change hands by DQ and countout. - Stardust Press (the spinning moonsault) was his original finisher before he stopped doing it because his knees were destroyed. He tried it for the first time in years during the WK12 Main Event vs Okada, missing it and eventually costing him the match. Him pulling it out here was kinda ridding himself of another past demon (which was the whole story of Naitos ascension). - Naito is actually a bigger star than Okada, at least popularity wise. Okada was the Ace but Naito was the people's champion. You go to any new japan show between 2015 and 2024 and at least 70% of the audience is in Naito or LIJ merch, he was insanely over, to the levels of a peak Austin relatively speaking. - You definitely need to watch more Naito btw lol. He's got so many incredible matches. 100% should spend a day and watch the Naito/Tanahashi trilogy from 2017 (maybe as an event watch along or whatever you wanna call it...👀)

The backstory behind the splash Naito hit. In naitos early days he used that move the "stardust press" as a finisher. He retired it as he got older until Wrestlekingdom 12 where he faced okada in the main event where he tried to hit the move after years and missed costing him the match that is why it was such a big deal that he hit it in this match. For more Naito matches I would suggest: Tetsuya Naito vs Kota Ibushi G1 27 or Tetsuya Naito vs will ospreay G1 33

At one time, no one had a worse relationship with that ic belt than Naito heh
